ScotRail is introducing its first-ever off peak season ticket.
It will coincide with the construction works on the Forth Replacement Crossing project during April and May.

The offer is designed to encourage more people to travel by train between Edinburgh and stations in Fife when the works take place.

ScotRail said the initiative was designed to help manage passenger loads at a time when motorists are being urged to take advantage of public transport when the major traffic management scheme is in force on the A92 and M90 in Fife.

The seven day off peak season ticket will be more than a third cheaper than a regular season ticket, ScotRail said.

It will be available from 31 March until 6 May.

ScotRail announced last week that it will be providing additional capacity on 28 weekend services which cross the Forth Rail Bridge to mitigate the impact of the works.

Sean Duffy, ScotRail’s commercial director said:
“We are well aware that motorists will face delays as a result of works.

“They are also being encouraged wherever possible to leave their vehicle at home. As such, we are adding extra carriages to many weekend services – and introducing a new ticket aimed at encouraging people to move to off peak travel when trains are less busy.”

Similar to Transpennine Express's Earlybird ticket, which has about 17,000 (well, a lot of) extra conditions and rules that even most staff couldn't understand, let alone the punters.

Seems to be nothing about it on their website (unless it's well hidden). Odd seeing as they're almost upon us.

TPE's Earlybird is outward travel arriving before 07:30 only, with no return travel between 16:00 and 18:30. Scotrail have the condition "They are not valid on services that arrive into Haymarket between 07.35 and 09.30 or on services departing Edinburgh between 16.30 and 18.30." so they are a lot more flexible than the TPE Earlybird.

Thanks - still odd if it's such a big thing it's not obvious from the home page - or their "tickets and offers" page - or the list of available ticket types.

It is linked for the hompage under: "Extra Seating on services for M90 Roadworks". Not the most helpful of pointers I must admit!
