I was surprised (and pleased) to see these old British Rail posters on display in the entrance area of Wemyss Bay station. I do wonder if people still turn up at the ticket office and ask for these fares!

I assume they are deliberately preserved, but it seemed rather an eclectic mix of posters to preserve! It must be a while since fares were not in 5p increments, I certainly don't remember it.

There were also a number of old posters of the tourism variety which was less unexpected, just thought it was surprising move to also have posters showing prices from long ago!

When Laurencekirk station was being refurbished prior to reopening, they found at least one original poster from when it was last open (1950s?). This poster is now in a display case in the waiting room on the Northbound platform

Dating clues: M reg was 1974, so that dates the Sealink poster, and 56p must have been decimalised from 11s 3d.

Those evening fares seemed a Scottish Region specialty. It was certainly 69p evening return (outward 18.00 or later) between Glasgow and Edinburgh in early 1974 - I used them several times, and I think they had been newly introduced. Normal day return (unrestricted) was £1,10.

Great detective work there. The Austin Allegro (I think) on the Sealink poster would also put it in that timescale I think.

I wonder if the ticket office has ever had anyone insist on paying those fares?

"But the poster outside says it's only 56p!"
