I remember seeing old photos of trains at Falkirk Grahamston with one carriage. Were they local trains before Scotrail?

Could you be more specific? Was it a loco hauled train or a DMU? As I'm not from Scotland and don't have much knowledge of the old Scottish region of BR if assume if a DMU it'd be a bubble car or a 153 (if they've ever operated in Scotland?)

The first is a Class 27 hauling probably a mark I. 27s were used on Glasgow - Edinburgh push pull services .

The other is an AC cars Railbus built in the 50s for BR as a prototype for further DMUs

Cool any ideas what the AC Car railbuses were used for? Were they actually in service or was the lines just quiet they could use these small trains?

They were used in the early 60s on the Gleneagles to Crieff/Comrie line returning to Perth on the main line, but were not reliable. They were substituted by a Black 5/B1 or Standard tank with two coaches on those workings until mid '64. By then the coaling facilities had closed at Crieff and the locos work to Perth, at end of play, which is why ever photo of Crieff shows a wide variety of motive power. I think there's a couple of the railbuses at Keighley, with at least one available for work!

Load 1 (post steam anyway) rare in the UK due to the poor decision not to fit every coach with an internal handbrake control, so requiring a brake or half brake vehicle in every formation which generally meant load 1 having very limited seating accommodation.

Far more common on the continent, always raises a smile...

Also used on Larbert - Alloa via Throsk services. The photo of one at Grahamston may show it heading for servicing or refuelling, or it's on a Grangemouth - Falkirk service.

The Mk 1 behing the 27 at Queen Street is a BG (full brake) - you can tell by the number of doors/footboards.
