Single Line Working (SLW) introduced. 1S18 first train through in the wrong direction.
T/bird is running round the culprit train at York to return South as 5G99 to Bounds Green via the Askern Branch.

Lead to believe there was a delay in implementing single line working due to a points problem at Joan Croft Junction, that is now fixed.

Just spotted this on the VTEC website as an update on the status of the 1700 service to Edinburgh.

Heaven forbid if this service really will be delayed for this long. That would mean arriving into Edinburgh at nearly midday tomorrow! I'm guessing it's a bit of an oversight rather than really how long this service will be delayed for.

**EDIT: They have now updated the status of this service to "running as scheduled". So definitely an oversight.

I remember that, I was the TPE in front of 1E19!

The wires didn't actually come down. There was a loose dropper short of the points south of the station which chipped the pans enough to bring them down. That was sorted relatively quickly but this looks like an overnight repair job.

TPE have been denied any paths between York and Doncaster due to limited SLW capacity and with very limited route knowledge for both staff and the traction there's no diversionary routes available. XC have at least the diversionary knowledge so they can still operate not calling Doncaster. Best advice is XC YRK-SHF for EMT/TPE to SPT and MAN or LDS-MCV via Calder valley. bussing via HUD should be avoided if possible

Indeed only VTEC have got the Paths via SLW.

Certain trains have been standing for 4 hours (apparently) - absolute nightmare scenario.

I was on the 1735 Kings Cross to Leeds and we've made it through on time as expected. Lots of trains stacked up around Doncaster though.

Ironically I'm heading to Newcastle via Leeds as pre planned, so I'm probably gonna get home before a fair few fellow Geordies making the journey from London!

Once they'd set up the single line working, it took two hours to get the first three northbound trains through, so there are now some southbound trains with c. 3 hour delays too.

Doesn't surprise me as stuff like this always results in some trains receiving ridiculously long delays.

I often think Delay Repay should be amended so once the delay goes above a certain level you actually get back more than you originally paid.

On Twitter it's the usual, Virgin getting it in the neck, people demanding renationalisation and tagging Jeremy Corbyn (& Richard Branson of course!)

The departure boards at York make for very depressing reading...

Looks like I just dodged this bullet. I was on the 1152 York to Aberdeen which was ok, looks like the fun started about an hour odd later. Some of those trains on RTT are currently running over 4 hours late and with the Edinburgh festivals just starting, many of those trains would have been packed like mine was.

I wonder if any attempt has been made to provide some sort of food to the passengers on those trains? Many of them will have been carrying people through when the passengers on board would have been expecting to be at their destination and having an evening meal!

    1S24 is 272L.

I should imagine displaced crew and sets with a knock on impact tomorrow morning. Assuming the line is repaired by then.

Unlikely. Carrying spare water is one thing, but there just wouldn't be enough food on board to cater for everyone. Unfortunately I don't see managers trekking over fields with crates of sandwiches is going to happen. If the train happend to be in a major station with food outlets that would help for sure...
