On an EMR service somewhere near Chesterfield, a ticket check was taking place and an overseas student going to Birmingham presented a phone to the guard.
The guard said the ticket had expired. The girl seemed surprised and quietly queried this.
The guard remarked to another guard that the ticket showed as expired but that it didn't show more detail. The girl had to buy a new ticket.
I guess this was an XC M-ticket. Based on what I have read here, an M-ticket having expired can be an error and I was tempted to enter the conversation in the passenger's defence but I don't know enough.
What was the correct course of action here?
