Saw an article in our local paper in Milton Keynes a couple of weeks ago that govenment funding will be allocated to help re-open the line from Oxford to Bedford, not much was said just that the govenment backs re-opening this section and hoped to issue funding sooner (in other words when they got the money). Until then Bedford to Bletchley services have been given the go ahead to extend to Milton Keynes Central.

Hopes are that the Oxford to Bletchley part of the line will be open by 2010.

Will there eventually be 100mph trains from Felixstowe - Didcot via the new route?

Nick,

No, for two reasons.

1) There isn't any justification for the massive investment in the infrastructure that such a scheme would require.

2) There isn't any line between Cambridge and Bedford.

Excellent! This should be the governments attitude, backing rail reopenings and investments instead of roads

Sensible move. Although they could do with a good linespeed increase Bedford-Bletchley.

I think the plans included updating the whole line to electricfication and more signals. They already started to increase freight use over the line.
