If you have some pre pay on your card and then you put a travelcard on it as well, i presume it doesn't take any of the pre pay :?:

How does it know what to take :?:

If you have a travelcard and go outside your zones, it knocks off prepay for those zones, for example:

You have a £3.00 zone 1-4 TC. You go to zone 5, you are charged the edge of zone 4 to zone 5. So £1.10 pre-pay.

It know whats to take because when you 'touch in' and 'touch out' it checks with the main Oyster computer and data on your card.

If you just use it on pre-pay, IIRC it will buy you singles until such time as the cost of a travelcard < the combined cost of singles, when it will switch you to a travelcard.

And the Oyster travelcard price is always 50p less than the paper travelcard price, AAUI.
