I've found two articles (in French) that report the following: the STIF (Syndicat des transports d’Île-de-France) thinks that the distinction between the Transilien and RER lines is unclear, so, the RER lines (A to E) will become just trains from 1 July.

It won't be long until they drop TER, add another silly name. What do they smoke in that marketing department?

TER is a name which makes sense as it covers passenger rail operations transfered to the regions. It became slightly more complex when certain regions were meged but in general they seem to have found a solution. The next step of TET is anything but a done deal
