Does anyone know what trains are running North of the WCML tomorrow? I'm heading south on the 0910/1010 and I'd prefer a Pendo if at all possible. I'd imagine that the 1010 is a Voyager (it usually continues to BHM) but the 0910 does not exist in the current timetable.

In case anyone's wondering, the WCML is shut Lancaster-Carlisle and Virgin are running GLC-CAR "shuttle" services but are not specifying the traction they will offer. I'm just curious as to what I'll expect tomorrow.

Thanks in advance

As they will presumably be running via the S&C it could be either, Voyager & Pendo drag.

most likely a pendo drag with one of Virgins 57s hauling them. It's the most likely option. They've been doing it between nuneaton and wolverhampton recently

No, there are no Pendolino drags or Voyagers via the S&C. The 0910 will probably be a 390, the 1010 possibly 2 Voyagers coupled together.
Then it is buses from Carlisle to Lancaster, and trains to Preston/Crewe/Birmingham.

Mintona's right. No S&C drags (sadly :() tomorrow so trains terminate at Carlisle. I has a thought the 0910 would be a Pendo (as I knew the 1010 would probably be a Voyager) so I'll keep my plans and go on the 0910. Thanks everyone.

I'd personally assume that the VT shuttles, especially noth of Preston/Carlisle, would be Pendolinos where possible, and i'm really annoyed that there aren't any diversions via the S&C :???:

I don't know how far in advance VT were actually told about this specific piece of engineering works, between Preston and Carlisle, but if they were told further in advance, than other cases which have recently been highlighted, in which NR gave very little notice at all, maybe VT were not able to get the needed paths over the S&C?

Personally knowing the timetable of trains (both pax and non pax) around associated lines within Lancashire, south of Hellfield, I know for a fact, that VT would have been able to get paths for diversions up to at least Clitheroe from Preston, but it's obviously a matter of both cost, and time.. (And also the fact that a path for only part of the route needed to carry out the full diversion obviously isn't very helpful).

Is blockade runner not still on, which accounts for all the Voyager fleet - with VT threatening to use 13-15 car trains now.

Since when have VT threatened this??

After all, they have, according to my sources, removed completely the reservations (and therefore AP singles) from the majority of weekend services (including the block busters...

But knowing what VT is like.. i wouldn't be too surprised if they did this as a PR stunt, but on the other hand, looking at it from a realistic point of view..

Me123, It is 90% likely that both your trains will be formed of a Pendolino..

The Blockade Busters ARE running tomorrow, which therefore makes it even more likely that the shuttles will be formed of Pendos.

2 points:-

a) why are virgin so poor at laying on trains to get around blockades - yet again there is no attempt to re-route via the S&C, even though it has been shown that bus substitution is a turn off.
b) why the scrapping of all the AP fares at weekends ?
are they going to follow Arriva and force everyone to pay the highest fare possible ?

Your post says it all really, Furryfeet....

That's what all the VT PR stunts etc don't tell us (I wonder why?!)

Yeah, I was certain they would be, I just didn't want to say that i was certain, because there's always that very small probability that a Super Voyager could have been left in Scotland, on Polmadie.

Didn't see a Virgin SV in Polmadie at all, actually, which is unusual. Seems to be always the one there on a Saturday morning (but it has been a few months since I last took the 0810 ex KWD).

Well a few are booked to stay over night on weekdays, and then form "early" morning services from both Edinburgh (08:52/10:52 come to mind) and Glasgow. (07:40/10:10 in Glasgow's case)

Therefore, it's unsurprising that a 221 is usually there on a Saturday morning- They probably stay there from working a Friday evening train to either Edinburgh or Glasgow.

But, as already mentioned, VWC probably send the 221's down south towards Preston/Birmingham/London, for the Block-Busters.

Just a shame they can't plan services to be diverted via the S&C!

Another quick question... I'm wondering what the headcodes were on my trains yesterday? Can't find them anywhere and the site I usually get them from, planajourney, is not working. Any help at all appreciated :D

The journeys were: 0910 GLC-CAR, 1555 CAR-GLC. AIUI, the 0910 was an "additional" service in that I can't find it on a normal TT. Remember, the WCML is shut Carlisle-lancaster this weekend!

Thanks :D Any clue about the northbound 1555 ex Carlisle? Would have been about 1303 out of BHM if it had been running that far?
