Is there a pendo testing on the ECML (yes not a misprint!) next week? It has been suggested to me by work colleagues that a Pendo will test on the ECML next week running as 5Z10 on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

Has anyone else heard this or are they extracting the urinal fluid from me?

Apparently it's true and I have heard it is expected to be one of the recently delivered 390s

I know they wanted to do testing this year with the Pendo's on the ECML but I'm yet to get 'inside info' on it as I'm awaiting this myself! Hopefully there is some truth in it...

Keep us posted and I'll do some digging!

Something I've always been curious about what's the difference between writing a time like 23:30 and 23/30? I've only ever seen times written as 23/30 when talking about railways so I assume it has some special meaning?

I feel that East Coast should order 31+ Pendolino trains, if they did it would increase capacity (if the trains were 11+ car units) and allow the transfer of the Class 91/Mark 4 stock to other line, lets say replacing Class 90/Mark stock on Greater Anglia services

The 222s haven't run far on the ECML, only to York and Scarborough?

Doncaster to York. Scarborough isn't on the ECML (though I am aware that during the summer EMTs St Pancras - York services extend to there). Also they covered Doncaster - Kings Cross when they were used by Hull Trains.

The 90s through East Anglia are ok for now. Better replacement would probably be an AC version of the 444 which could run with 5 cars off peak and 10 cars at peak times.

Also what about the Class 180 used by First Hull and Grand Central?

What about them? They've covered Kings Cross -Northallerton and I think actually all the way to Newcastle in the past (as well as a run near Leeds at some point me thinks).

Yes, but they do not have a buffet car, also if they are going to get EMU stock, they might as well get Class 379 stock insted

Not Newcastle, but Sunderland

The recent ECS moves to Kilmarnock for refurbishment has seen the 180 routed via Edinburgh so they have been seen on the ECML from end to end.

They have a micro buffet fitted in the TSRMB which is next to the DCMO.

Normally yes, but I'm sure they've been on diversions that have taken them between Darlo and Newcastle.

Really? Thought they'd have gone along the Tyne Valley then up the WCML. Well that's interesting. Thanks :)

If they are getting Class 444, can they be 6-car units, so that some Class 444 trains can have 12 cars if working together

The 444 has a more spacious interior though doesn't it? Buffet Car shouldn't matter for a 2 hour journey, after all XC doesn't have them.
