Seeing the photo accompanying the announcement of the event on the following day reminded me of a spectacular Crosville journey on the narrow and winding A496 between Barmouth and Dolgellau in the early 60s - Bristol single-decker with ridiculously high steering wheel and crash gearbox, in the hands of an enthusiastic driver.

If they have the national running, I'll be there to ride it as it is the road version of a pacer

And we still have Pacers, makes you think when the 36 between Leeds and Harrogate once was Nationals and the train now is still quite likely to be a Pacer just how much investment in rail travel has been missing.
