That's better than it could have been. Hope the medics are able to help the poor soul. Hope, also, that there are no lasting effects on those involved or who witnessed the incident.

There's a report in the Standard at

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/tran...y-train-at-south-london-station-a3254316.html

A schoolgirl was hit by a train in front of shocked commuters during rush hour at a busy south London station today.

The girl, 16, was trapped under the train before being released by firefighters following the incident at Catford Bridge station shortly before 8am.

She was then rushed to hospital by paramedics with serious injuries to her head and leg, British Transport Police said.

Poor lass.

UPDATE: 16-year-old girl 'in serious condition' after being hit by a train at Catford Bridge

2 hrs ago / Jess Bell, Jess Clark and Helen Corbett

A teenage girl was hit by a train at Catford Bridge station during the rush hour this morning.

British Transport Police (BTP) received reports of someone being hit by a train at 7.53am.

Commuter James Regan was on the train when it suddenly stopped while pulling into Catford Bridge station.

He said: "The train driver announced that a schoolgirl had either jumped or fallen in front of the train.

"We were on the train for about half an hour to 45 minutes before we could get off.

"Firemen and other police personnel escorted us off the train and we had to walk along the track for about 20 feet or so to reach the platform.

"I saw a blue barrier but I didn't see much else - I heard that people were crying."

Mr Regan added that the whole station has been closed off and he and the other passengers were advised to go to Catford station.

Another witness, who asked not to be named, said he thought the girl was likely to be in year 10 judging by her school uniform.

London Ambulance Service sent ambulance crews, an incident response officer and a hazardous area response team to the scene.

A spokesman for BTP confirmed that a 16-year-old girl was treated for injuries to her head and leg at the scene.

She was then taken to hospital and remains in a serious condition.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

London Air Ambulance and London Fire Brigade also attended.

Trains to and from Hayes were brought to a standstill whilst emergency services are at the scene.

Southeastern advised passengers to use local buses or Croydon tramlink to avoid the station.

The train operator said: "Because of a person hit by a train at #CatfordBridge trains to and from Hayes are currently at a stand."

The affected train has now been removed and services will start to run again shortly, however delays are likely.

Lets hope she makes it... The main thing is that she seems to have passed the hour mark, so it looks good for a recovery!

Clearly, somebody upstairs was watching out for her!

Guy I follow on Twitter was about 20ft from the incident. He glanced up (I guess because he heard the train) to see her jump. He's understandably a bit shaken...

So a suicide attempt...?

Always sad to hear about these things at such a young age

There are times when I don't want to be a Driver and suicides tend to increase at certain times of the year. I have heard some horrific stories and when the circumstances behind them is revealed it can be devastating to all those involved, and to those who it may indirectly affect.

The young ones are the worst (in my opinion). I lost a friend at a young age and the impact it has on my life seems to have a greater affect than those I have lost in their later years.

GCSE time. It's not uncommon. It also happens at results time too.

Might have been an accident of course. School children dos unfortunately get rather close to the edge of crowded platforms.

I passed through the area on the Catford loop line shortly before this happened.

I saw a post on twitter praising the driver for the calm and professional way he dealt with it all.
