Wholesale fuel prices last peaked around the second week of April and have fallen slowly and steadily since. Prices should be significantly lower than what they are.
Absolutely. And like water companies we have little choice.Rocket and feather spring to mind...
Diesel has been cheaper at wholesale (as it comes out of the refinery) since about mid/late March. In Belfast - 137.9 for diesel & 138.9 for unleaded.
First time in a while I've seen diesel less than unleaded.

True. And with prices that good, I wonder if I can fill the hold of a Southampton-Belfast return flight with jerry-cans...In Belfast - 137.9 for diesel & 138.9 for unleaded.

Always interestign to comlare to history.
20 years ago, petrol prices were 80.4p / litre (source, RAC foundation records). Allowing for RPI, that would now be £1.66/ litre.
10 years ago, petrol prices were 131.1p/ litre. (same source). Allowing for RPI, that would now be £1.98/ litre.
Is it reasonable to say that fuel prcies are now cheap? I think so.

I don't think RPI is a reasonable measure of inflation to use for this though?Always interesting to compare to history.

Sticking Bald Rick's numbers into the Bank of England inflation calculator which uses CPI:I don't think RPI is a reasonable measure of inflation to use for this though?
80.4p in 2004 is 140.7p as of May
If that's the one on the left on the way out towards the hospital, it's usually the cheapest in the area.138.9 for petrol at a BP place in Abergavenny on 15 June.
Yes, that's the place. We'd travelled from Whitchurch (Hampshire) to visit my wife's sister in Crickhowell, and saw this as were coming out of Abergavenny, so we called in to fill up on the way back.If that's the one on the left on the way out towards the hospital, it's usually the cheapest in the area.
It's a regular stop for me on journeys to or from west Wales via the A40, though sometimes the queue for the forecourt is too long for me to join.
