A class 66 trip focusing on non-passeneger lines. Joining Stations: Swindon, Kemble, Stroud, Cheltenham Spa, Bromsgrove, Birmingham New Street & Stafford.

This excursion initially heads south to north, DB Cargo class 66 hauled, via the pick-up stations above and, once north of Stafford we almost immediately roam from the passenger network and head into the depths of Crewe Yard, where there will be loco spotting opportunities aplenty. Whilst in the Crewe area we will pick up a Freightliner class 66, providing a very rare haulage opportunity.

With our train of Mk1 carriages in top’n’tail mode we continue to weave between the passenger and freight network as we visit a number of terminals that serve the waste and aggregate industries. We expect that some tracks we travel over on this trip will not have seen a passenger train before, or indeed, may never do so again! After what we hope will have been a fantastic day’s railtouring it will be time to think about heading homewards, but not before squeezing in a few more unusual routings along the way.

Subject to operational circumstances on the day, the route in detail is:

As per Pick-Up stations to Stafford then: Crewe Independent Lines – Gresty Lane Curve – Gresty Green (Reverse) – Down Manchester Independent Line – Wilmslow – Manchester Piccadilly – Salford Crescent – Pendleton Waste Terminal – Bolton (Reverse) – Salford Crescent – Manchester Victoria – Brewery Junction – Dean Lane Goods (Reverse) – Brewery Junction – Manchester Victoria – Salford Hope Street (to Network Rail limit/Reverse) – Manchester Victoria – Thorpes Bridge Junction (Reverse) – Collyhurst Depot (Reverse) – Philips Park West Junction – Ashburys- Guide Bridge Up & Down Pass Loop (Reverse) – Avenue Sidings (Reverse) – Guide Bridge – Stockport – Wilmslow – Up Manchester Independent Line – Stafford – As per Set-Down Stations.

A number of Goods Loops will also feature.

We are indebted to Suez, GB Railfreight and Freightliner for their kind support of this special charter train.
