Hi

I am fairly new to railway photography. Thus far locally, good places I have found are, the bridge to the country park just south of Dronfield on the old A61 for MML passenger traffic. And the footbridge at Treeton for freight traffic.

I would like to know as many as possible please. The nearer Sheffield the better but generally speaking I want to build up a list of places within 50 miles. In particular, would like to see a full range of freight traffic. For which, I don't mind travelling a bit further. I am told the Crewe-Liverpool line is a must for this.

I suggest you visit Trainspots site:

Plenty of locations, with examples of photos taken at each location. For scenic locations near Sheffield, it is hard to beat the Hope Valley line, although freights can be infrequent.

Colton Junction is just about within an hour of Sheffield. It's where the ECML splits from the York-Leeds line - there's a spot with parking where you can see both lines for about a mile and plenty of vantage points if you're prepared to walk around, it's quite popular though so has been shot a lot.

Here's some of my best from there:

and the Leeds side:

Location
S Yorks, usually
For a challenge, try and get some on the freight-only line through Maltby - there are a number of suitable spots along there, including Brookhouse viaduct, but not many trains.
