52hr strike by Piccadilly Line drivers:
http://www.rmt.org.uk/news/rmt-drivers-on-piccadilly-line-to-strike/

“TUBE UNION RMT confirmed today that driver members on the Piccadilly Line will be striking over a series of attacks on working conditions and staffing levels that have turned the line into a pressure cooker.

RMT members will strike between 21.00 hours on Wednesday 11th July and 01.00 hours on Saturday 14th July 2018.”

On the naughty step again.
More political grandstanding. Calling strike days on the the days that President trump is visiting. Cynical coincidence or what? Now, how will the anti-Trump supporters - of which the RMT is one - get to the demonstration?

Exactly its the worst decision RMT have ever made and they have made some blinders in the past.

Yawn. Union calls strike, that may well not happen, after democratic ballot, people froth at mouth. Trump would not have been using the Piccadilly Line, and almost certainly not Heathrow anyway.

They will probably use other Underground lines and buses.

Why was the strike called off ?
https://www.rmtlondoncalling.org.uk...congratulated-achieving-vast-movement-company

We congratulate our negotiations team and Lead Officer on achieving vast movement from the company in all four items of this dispute.
None of this would have been remotely possible without the crushing pressure of the strike mandate and proposed strike dates which our Train Operator Members in both Finsbury Park and Piccadilly & District West branches delivered.
We instruct the General Secretary to suspend the strike action from 21:00hrs on Wednesday 11th July to 01:00hrs on Saturday 14th July 2018, and instruct our Members to work normally.
We remain in dispute and instruct the Lead Officer to place a progress report back before this NEC within 28 days.

Does anyone know what percentage of Piccadilly line drivers belong to RMT vs. Aslef vs. no union at all? I'm wondering why TfL didn't even bother trying a skeleton service as surely they have some drivers not striking...

The east end of the line, at least, is rather heavily RMT.

Recent LU policy seems to be to pull the whole service during strikes now. This was the case during the last batch of strikes when resources were available to run something. Not sure if this is a deliberate strategy or just the result of a change in management.

If they advertised a limited 15/20/25min service it would soon be swamped with prospective passengers.

On Thursday just 4 east-end and 5 west-end drivers were available at some point during the day.

Drivers who are willing to come in will come in at their booked time so you may have a driver turn up at 04.45 and then nothing until gone 06.00 then maybe 2 more at 07.00 and so on. Managers don't know whose coming in until they actually turn up so can't plan a service and as has been said, you can't promote a working service as passengers will decend en-masse and overload an already patchy service.

It's far safer just to suspend and advertise accordingly.

It’s the whole line not just the east end that is largely RMT, and those that are not still pretty much didn’t book on. The RMT ballot results (https://www.rmt.org.uk/about/ballot...-train-operators-piccadilly2106/?preview=true) states that 420 were eligible to vote (ie. are RMT members employed as T/Ops or I/Os at one of the four depots on the line). This document on the TfL website says there are more than 550 drivers, so we can assume it is around this number.

There just wasn’t enough staff reporting for duty to make running any sort of service justified yesterday or Wednesday afternoon. There were enough West end early turn drivers this morning to run a shuttle Acton to Heathrow Airport from late morning.

This was the case during the last batch of strikes when resources were available to run something. Not sure if this is a deliberate strategy or just the result of a change in management.
The last “all grades” strike (RMT) saw quite a comprehensive service on many lines; during daytime hours.
