Yep. Took a good 3 hours to walk around the site. Cleared the 57/6's, most of the BR Pullman stock, and I now only need 3 57/3's. The only 57/0 I need is in MOD Longtown, so I have no hope of seeing that.

Day out to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Preston 12/3/19

So after getting up late, I treated myself to a taxi to Preston, I didn't fancy an hour wait at Blackpool North. I arrived in Preston at around 2240, here is what I saw up until midnight.
319364, 390124, 319380, 142087, 350408, 350401.
90040+67010+90039 went north on a car train, with trucks 43 87 4333 007-0, 031-0, 024-5.
Collecting wagon numbers means at least I get too see something. Back to the duds,
390043, 158903, 156452, 158793, 319386, 142001, 142004, 158908, 158910,
86622+86604 went south on an intermodal.
142035, 150206, 390141, 319368.

Preston 13/3/19.

The start of a new day didn't bring me much luck the duds kept on coming.
(On a separate note, as I'm writing this, I'm sat outside Blackpool Tower, where Virgin Trains are having a party. Just picked a train manager up in my bomber).
Anyway back to the duds at Preston.
150102, 150143, 142058, 66124,
90035 went south with cars, trucks were,
43 87 4333 034-4, 052-6, 016-1, 054-2, eventually I'm going to get all the numbers on that rake of wagons.
More duds,
319385, 150204+156471, 66160, then heading south on an intermodal 66192!
Then more duds,
350409, 156468+156461.
Then the sleeper ricked up running approx 30 mins late, the dud theme continuing even for haulage,
92038, 10504, 10565, 10675, 10526, 10706, 1220h, 9802h, 10718h, 10502, 10600, 10542, 10650, 6706 and 9810.
10718 was the only carriage I could haulage on that i hadn't previously been on.
So onwards to Scotland.

Carlisle station.
More duds,
156447, 156443, 158816, 158850, 156505, 156436.

Carlisle Kingmoor.
68016 and 37401.
Next stop Edinburgh.

Edinburgh part 1.
Even in another country the duds were still coming thick and fast, well maybe not to fast, they were all stabled.
156509, 170402, 170413, 156433, 156495, then a cop!
385011, 385008, were stabled and the first inroads into the 385's.
221123, rolled into either platforms 8 or 9.
Back to the sleeper.
67008 took the Inverness section north.
73968, took the Fort Bill section.
I was graced with 73969 on the Granite city section. We left 20 mins late. I asked the guard if I could get off at Inverkeithing instead of Kirkcaldy. This was arranged as the train has to slow down there anyway and time could be made up not having to stop at Kirkcaldy.

Inverkeithing.
221123 again, then 43143+41146+42300+42299+44040+43012 roll in. Then 68006h+5976+6137+9527+9539h+5945+ 5952 on what turns out to be the only loco hauled set that was out in the morning rush. Thankfully it waa the one I needed for sight and haulage, with the one carriage I needed for haulage.
More duds,
158708, 170415, 170407, and then my train to Cardenden 170402h+170410h, which were both bagged for haulage.
170393 was seen at Dunfemline Town.
170395 was at Dunfemline Queen Margaret.
158732 was at Lochgelly.
On arrival at Cardenden the Cat was waiting to take me back to Edinburgh.
170407 was at Dunfemline Queen Margaret.
158711 was at Haymarket depot, only 2 Scotrail 158's left too see. Also only 2 158's left too see as BREL built them, however some have been reformed and renumbered.

Haymarket station.
170411, 170415, 158727, 380018.

Edinburgh part2.
Things are starting too look up.
170470, 385012, 170429, 170403, 158740, 156504, 170432, 220002, 385124, 170407, 334040, 334027, 385022, 385103, 334007, 220005, 158736, 334031+334032.

Then I went for a wander to see the LNER HST, which was,
43272, 44031, 42122, 42134, 42357, 42116, 42355, 40732, 41164, 41066, 43290.

334036, 170450, 385015, 385008, 385033, 334033, 385122, 170434, 156503.

Platform 2 for a 91 and mk4 stock,
91104, 12228, 12469, 12430, 12424, 12311, 10313, 11285, 11313, 11413, 82213.

385009+385111, 380111, 221134, 385020, 385105, 334035+334015, 350406, 334025, 156495, 385108 and 170413.

Outside for a cigarette and I saw tram 269.

Back on the platform.
170419, 170411, 158733, 158736, 158716, 385103+385022, 334018+334034, 380018.
43310, 41090, 41044, 40737, 42340, 43127, 42063,42064, 42065, 44045, 43367.

Then I caught 385019+385116 to Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High.
170403 was at Haymarket station.
43037, 43112, 42572, 43125, 43184 were seen at Haymarket depot.
Tram 263, was seen to the west of there.

334039 was seen in passing.

385112 was seen at Croy.

Somewhere near Polmont, there was a random rake of mk1 carriages in a siding next to the line. The only two numbers I got were 3115 and 4856.

43136+43179 were seen at the depot, outside Queen Street.

Glasgow Queen Street.
43036+44066+42208+42206+41104+43168.
158729, 158738, 170406, 156493, 385110, and then lo and behold my penultimate 156 for sight 156476. And then 380018, I swear this is following me!
A cigarette, more Doctor Pepper, then onto;

Buchanan Street Subway.
131+208+124, 101+116+109, 126+206+110, 111h+201+125, 133+202+117,
115+103+127, 113h+204+105, 121+119+128.
111 was caught to Govan, for a wander around to the depot. At the depot L6 was seen outside.
113 then took me to;

Partick.
More duds coming,
334019+334007, 318263, 334039+334009, 320308+318268, 320417, 320317+320302, 320403, 318264+320414, 334022+334002, 318256+318265, 320306, 318266+320404, 334038+334036, 334037, 334006+334012, then 320316 rolls in with my last 318, 318261. Wahoo!
Now back to the duds,
320412, 320301+32311, 318257, 320313+320416.
With rain clouds looming and the onset of the evening peak, time to make a move, though with hindsight, I wished I hadn't.
320302 and 320317h caught to;

Glasgow Central low level.
More duds here as well!
318260, 320319+318270, 320318, 320413, 318250+320304, 318259, 334014, 320306, 320417.
A move upstairs was made for a smoke, and park myself at the end of platform 12, by now it was lightly raining.

Glasgow Central high level.
Things are starting to look up again!
380022, 380018 (seriously not again), 314202, 380017+380008, 156508, 380016, 380010, 390104, 314216, 156435, 156502+156433, 156437, 380011, 380109, 220033, 320309, 156507, 314214, 318269+320314, 314211, 314203, 380006, 314215, 380102, 156436, 380101, 380012, 156474+156458, 350401, 156433, 156445+156434, 390043, 314210, 318262+ 320311, 156509, 380110, 156505, 380005, 156439, 380007, 380108, 380001, 314207, 156509+156513, 156501+156511+156514, 314209, 380020, 156503+156505, 156507, 320312+318252, 380105, 380013, 314215, 380109, 390132, 156432+156502, 380113, 380015, 156495, 320303, 380022, 318251, 221102, 380102, 380114, 380010 156432, 156445+156434, 380011, 156474.
Then in the distance I notice a 158. I thought that's strange, I didn't think they came into Central, but, I'm glad it did as it was 158730, my penultimate 158 for sight.

Back to the duds,
314211, 3142??, 156458, 221133, 380021, 380016, 318269+320314, 156507.
As the repeats were coming I decided to walk round to Queen Street, the only good thing about that is I need the exercise.

Queen Street.
158709, 156431, 170411, 385112, 156493, 380018 (I swear this unit knows where I am going to be), 156453, 385111+385009, 170413, there was an HST as well, but it is the one I saw earlier so didn't bother writing it down.

So back to Central for 390122, which I have been on before to take me to Preston. It left on time at 2010.
I then fell asleep, but, saw 158910 at Oxenholme.
At Preston I saw, 350408, 66724 heading south, 142004, 142088, and 319385h took me back to Blackpool. At least I needed that for haulage. I then jumped in a cab home and had a few tins of beer.
All in all a good day out. A shame about the second cat on the Fife circle, but hey not much to be done about that. Isaw the ladt 318 i needed, I'm down to 1 156, 158, 380/0, and 320/3. I'm down to 4 320/4's, 5 334's and 380/1's. And have made way on the 385's. So jobs a good n.
My next planned day out is the ICRS AGM, and trip around Basford Hall.

Also after dealing with numpties in my taxi most of the week, I'm treating myself to a Merseyrail day rover later on today, to try and get the 5 507's and 3 508's that I need.

You will certainly see lots of Voyagers at Stafford haha.
I was talking to a guy the other day and he was telling me about the ICRS trips to yards. Been doing some research into a membership with them so that I can get onto some of these outings

Day out to Merseyside 22/3/19.
I fancied a day out so settled on Merseyside, its a relatively cheap day out from Blackpool. So a taxi to Blackpool North and a ticket to Ormskirk was purchased.
My steed to Preston was dud for sight, but, good for haulage 319380.
At Blackpool North Carriage sidings I got my first sightings for the day in the form of 195103, 195113 and 331107. My first 331 for sight.
319446 was passed at Poulton-le-Fylde.

Preston.
A bacon barm purchased after a cig. The following duds were seen;
221113, 156496, 156443+156468, 158872, 88002 went north on an intermodal, 390006, 390002, 156461+156463.
150148 was then caught to Ormskirk, which was a winner for haulage.
At Ormskirk a Merseyrail day saver was purchased for the princely sum of £5.30 and 507019 was caught to Kirkdale.
I alighted at Kirkdale and was rewarded with dud 508120 and followed by winner 507004. One down 4 to go!
508134 and 507018 were in the shed, I couldn't make out the unit in the siding. 507010 was seen as I then caught winner for haulage 507007 to Sandhills.

Sandhills.
I then parked myself at the south end of the platform to bag the northern line units. How come you can smoke on Merseyrail country stations, but, not on other network rail stations? Anyway here is what I observed;
Duds, 508122 on a Kirkby service, 508126, 508111, 508127 going to Southport, 508019 going to Ormskirk, 507004, 507027, 507020, 508103, 508124, then my second winner 507031 turns up on a service to Hunts Cross, 2 down 3 to go. 507010, 507023, 508112.
Then I caught winner for haulage 507032 to Moorfields, where winner for sight and haulage 507028 turned up to take me to Lime Street.
At Lime Street a much needed comfort break was taken, after which I was rewarded with winning 350264, taking the down to 10 for sight. 142058 and 158788 were also noted. I then headed back down below. The following were noted at the low level station.
508114, 507029, 508131+507003, 508104, 508115, penultimate winner 507002 then turned up with dud 508128 on a working to Rock Ferry, 507028, and then my final 507 turns up on a service to West Kirkby, 507006.
After resplendently listening to Handel's hallelujah chorus, I was wondering where the 3 508's that I need maybe hiding. Meanwhile duds 508125+508136, 507011, 507013, turned up.
Apparently trains are working between Hooton and Ellsmere Port and Chester. So winner for haulage 508104 was caught to Hamilton Square. From there I caught Stagecoach 15588 was caught to Hooton.
At Hooton I was graced with duds 508141, 508143, 507008 and 508108. Blimey I was thinking this is a wasted journey when, winner 508139 rolled in from Chester. 1 down 2 to go.
Back on a bus to Hamilton Square where Stagecoach 15593 did the honours.
507005+508131 were noted. 508114 was a winner for haulage to St James where winner for haulage 508115 was caught to Moorfields.
By this point duds and repeats were coming thick and fast. I stayed there for a while as it was rush hour.
However, my patience (which was fast running out), was rewarded with my last winner for the day 508140 came in with 507016, going to Hunts Cross. 507013 was good for haulage to Lime Street.
The following duds were seen at the high level station.
150274, 158812, 390114, 142052+142034, 350112, 156427, 185143, 319361, 319368.
319381 dud for sight and haulage was caught direct to home. I did a night shift before I set off and was tired. It had also started raining and I didn't fancy Preston in the cold and wet. So I went home for a beer or 2. 156496 was at Blackpool North.
For a random day out, I managed to clear a class of EMU, with just one needed to clear another. I bet 508123 is the first to be withdrawn!

Still illegal, but Sandhills is quite lawless in those parts.

I bet that last 508 was sitting within the depths of Birkenhead depot

you can smoke on merseyrail stations apart from underground as merseyrail didn't go for the 100% no smoking like a lot of other companies did

Saturday 6th of April.
ICRS AGM and Basford Hall.

(A telephone directory maybe required!)

As I didn't fancy the mammoth walk down Gresty Road, and I hadn't financed for a train ticket, I decided to drive to Crewe. So into the death star I climbed, (its actually a Mitsubishi Space Star, but close enough. A death star cannon would make traffic jams interesting!), for a non eventful journey south. To say it was the day of tubs of glue being chased by Tesco's finest, (grand national day) the M6 was surprisingly quiet.
The AGM was held at the Crewe Arms Hotel, which was pleasant. Once that was done a nice lunch of sandwiches and chips was consumed, then on to............

Basford Hall.
I parked the death star outside the main offices at the south end of the yard which is near the footbridge and disused signal box. To keep some degree of sanity (wagon numbers aside), I am splitting the following into locos and wagons. All were seen in various parts of the yard heading south to north.
Locomotives.
66957, 66953, 90050, 86251, 70006, 66414, 66603, 66567, 57303+88003, 66420, 92020, 97304, 70008, 66598, 66955, 90044, 86639, 86694, 66552, 86637, 86229, 86614, 66413, 47830/D1645, 86625, 86632, 86610, 90016, and 86622.
I also noticed 57307 on Gresty Bridge DRS depot, the pink nameplates are a bit of a give away. I think 57001 was with it but can't confirm it.

Telephone directory time (wagons).

31 70 5892 012 3
31 70 5992 091 6
99 70 9552 020 8

Then dud 70015 rolled through heading north with an intermodal, it train consisted of,
608526, 607133, 607096, 608530, 640208, 640207, 83-70-4520-005-7, 83-70-4520-004-0, 93295, 608391, 608392, 641006, 640240, 640242, 640306, 640305, 641009, 640218, 640217, and, 93302.
I then parked the death star at Crewe station and bought a ticket to Stafford.
Crewe station.
All duds mainly.
221117, 221101 I like the new livery on this one, 350126, loitering in the siding next to platform 12 was winning 57308, I last saw this when in a previous life it was 47846, at Preston on a cross country train in merlin green livery. My friend and myself turned it down for haulage, for a 156. Gutted is not the word. I never saw it again after that. It and 47802 and 47803, are the only ones i didn't get for haulage in the 47/8 series.
Back to the duds,
350125, 08737, 47841,
The an anomaly 2/3's of a 175 for sight, 79704+56751+50751=175101, i suppose?
More duds 390151, 390020, 318386, 390135, 390043, 153367,
Then on my first 350/2 for haulage 350235 to Stafford.
Carriage 35461 was in a line outside LSL. Outside LNWR were two firsts for me in the form of 710103 and 397004. 08568 was lurking in the background with 67014 with carriages 12185, 12177, 12183 and 82308.

Stafford.

At Stafford I sat on a bench, but a guy started to talk to me about sport. Apparently Manchester rovers or athletic had just scored a goal in some match for a big drinking receptacle, so I left him to it and went for a cigarette. Makes you wonder, if I ran around with my shirt over my head giving it fist pumps when I do what I'm paid to do, ie drive someone to where they want to go to. I'm sure Blackpool council would be questioning whether or not I should be driving a taxi. A footballer scores a goal, ie has done what they are paid to do, they go silly. Anyway, back on topic........
.....more duds.
350236, 390138, 350125, 221104+221114, 390039,
Then my first winner in the form of XC 221126. But it was short lived and back to the duds.......
220023, 390049, 390104, 350373+350249, 390130
Then in came dud 350127 with winning 350368, the last 350/3 that I need for sight. I think I heard a firework somewhere!
After that another winner in the form of 221128. 390122 broke the winning streak, before 221135 came in. Two more dud 350/1's, 350121 and 350130.
Then dud 66501 went through heading north with winning wagons, 613019, 608085, 93460, 608396, 640402, 640325, 640326, 640239, 640350, 640261, 640262, and, 92624.
Then my penultimate 350/1 came in the shape of 350118. This was followed by a long line of duds,
390131, 350129, 390128, 390124, 390047, 390125, 220034, 220006, 350235, 350126, 390152, 390112, 221134, a winner then rolled in heading south 220009. Then more duds, 221142, 350246, and 350240.
Then it was on the winning pair for haulage back to Crewe 350127+350368, my firsts of each sub class for haulage.
Then it was back in the death star to go home. The M6 was eerily quiet. Beer then bed.

Sounded like a good day for your book of sights in Crewe & Stafford.

At the bottom of the post box should be a button called "Upload a File", then you upload a picture and insert it into your posts.

Saturday 8th of June LSL open day Crewe.

A fine day out despite the weather, with our tickets purchased the day they went on sale, I got through on the phone before the website would load for my dad, sometimes the old ways are the best ways!
A taxi ride to Blackpool North and train tickets were purchased to Manchester Piccadily, it saves going on a Pendolino and is a bit of a change.
Duds 158795 and 319379 were in the station.
More duds in the forms of 195103, 195107 and 195109 plus a couple of unidentifiable 331's were in the carriage sidings.

319373 was passed at Kirkham.

142044 was seen in the Croft St sidings.
DR73909 and winner DR73906 were in the Dock street sidings.
Duds 142035 and 150110 were seen in the station.

More duds were seen passing Oxford Road in the forms of 158799, 156452 and 158846.

On arrival at Piccadilly more duds were seen in the form of 390119, 142028+142030, 150137, 150149.
After purchasing tickets to Crewe, we went to board our train on platform 4 behind which was winner 221129. After boarding dud for sight
319368, winner 150113+150127 rolled in next to us. I now only need 1 150/1 for sight. Seen leaving Piccadilly were duds 158785, 185142 and 185151.

156420 was seen passing through Stockport.

150223 and 142032 were seen as we passed through Alderly Edge.

Crewe station.

On arrival Crewe the first of many yellow line announcements were heard. As well as many duds 221142, 350240+350243, 350113, 221103+221143, 57308, 390123, 390008, and, 150252.

Crewe Diesel Depot.

After the bag check and walking past dud 221101, winning kettles 45231 and 34046 were seen. We then ventured into the new shed.
In the shed were 57301 coupled to 319433. However next to them were winners 73951+73952 were top and tailing dud carriages 975091+72631+977997+9523. Then more duds 91119, 90045, 88005, 37608, 56049,and winner 47593.
Outside in the rain was winner 70808, with more duds 50049, 70008 92038, 57307, 68027.
Whilst wandering out to the far fences out the back the frames to kettle 35022 were seen.
Winning coaches 3231, 35317, 35451, were with duds 310, 3312, 3045.
More dud locomotives were 47811, 47816, kettle 46100, van 94170, 9479, 5912, and 35465.
Inside the main shed winner 47614, with duds 47830, 47841, 37606, 86622, 55009, 142001, 121034, 50050, 08737.
Back to the outside for winners 20205, 37190 and 73001. With more duds 66503, 70000, 08762, 55019, 20189, 47712, kettle 5029, 55016, 67006 and 43048 winner 43423.
We then had a look at the sales stands.
After a fish and chip lunch we headed back to the station and bought a ticket to Stafford. After Gresty bridge last year, we thought it would be more peaceful than having to listen to the seemingly endless yellow line announcements. Plus I need XC stock which you don't get at Crewe.
More duds were seen whilst waiting for our train, 175110, 390011, 390112, 390117, 350112. Our steed to Stafford was 350101.
710117, 397003+397004 were seen at LNWR.

Stafford.

So Stafford, it was worth it for the single yellow line announcement that was made in the 5 hours we were there.
So winners first...
350254, 220016, 221139, 350248, 221140, 350258, 221137, 221136, 66745,350233.

350233 got us back to Crewe.

Carriages at LSL.
1658, 94538, 1812, 1883, 17013, 6311 and 10224.

At the station dud 158774 was seen on a Derby service.
323229 took us back to Piccadilly.
142052+142049 were at Alderly Edge.
185119 and 350404 were at the Airport.
After arrival at London Road, we had a rather pleasant tea at the railway tavern.

Thanks.
I don't get why certain people can't do as they are told. The yellow line is there for a reason.......
And it only seems to be at Crewe when an open day is on, though I am waiting to see Carlisle in July.
If a kettle is present in steam it just goes crazy...
.... hence moving on to Stafford, for some solitude. They even seemed more relaxed with the see it, say it announcements.

Nice to see you bagging a number of winners at the open day. I probably spent about 20 mins at Crewe before 10am and must have heard 5 or 6 yellow line announcements. As you say, why can't these grown adults just comply with the rules?

It was the same last year for DRS Gresty Bridge. Wether or not you agree with the yellow line it is there for a reason. Disobeying the rules, the minority give the rest of us a bad name. I'd rather just obide by the rules, so not to make a nuisance of myself and get banned, or injured. Hence why we went to Stafford, peace and serenity in comparison.

Thank you for your comments. Sat in a Holiday Inn in Warwick at the moment. It is the ICRS Long Marston tour tomorrow. Then a couple of nights in Shrewsbury, for a trip to Cardiff.

Week ish away. For ICRS Long Marston tour.

After driving down to the Midlands, a car is definitely needed, Long Marston is in the middle of no where. It took longer than I thought, though the M6 was flowing southbound at least. I had a bit of time to kill before I could check in to the hotel, so I ended up in....

Leamington Spa.
I paid for the car park and bought a west midlands day ranger. I was greeted with
82302+10272+12602+12615+12623+12613+12625+68013.
Then the duds started rolling through, 168001, 165026 then winner 220031 came through. Then duds 220023, 168003 before winner 172005 terminated in the bay platform. More duds in the form 168107, 220013, 165020 and 220007.
Dud 66197 rolled through with an empty car train with winning trucks:87-4384-
015-7, 031-2, 002-3, 030-4, 011-4, 024-7, 010-6, 020-5, 039-5, and, 041-1.

Time to go and check to my digs for 2 nights. So after freshening up a taxi was had to Warwick Parkway. Where 168106 was had to Snow Hill.
Dud 172344 was passed at Adcocks Green.
172211 was passed at Tyseley.
Duds 168005 and 168329 were passed at Moor Street.
On arrival at Snow Hill, I didn't have a plan of action, but knew the PPM I need was oit and about due to the TOPS request page, so Stourbridge was where I was heading.
The following were seen at Snow Hill:-
172331+172335, 172342+172338*, 172212+172217, tram 21, 172337, tram 17, 22, 31, 34, 27, 32, 172337, 172213+ winner 172216, 172002+172001,172340, 172341+172219, winner 172333*,
170635 was caught to Stourbridge Junction.

*50333 is formed in 172338.
*50338 is formed in 172333

So at Stourbridge Junction winner for sight and haulage, and class now complete for both was
139002. Through the rain I could definitely here a firework or 2. I now never need to go there again.
Duds 172338+172342 broke the excitement, before, winner 172222+172211 came follwed by double winners 172004+172008, folled by duds 172335+172331.
Then in rocked the Cat I saw earlier, so it would be rude not to get it for haulage, so
68013 and all the coaching stock were had for haulage to Kidderminster.
Once at Kidderminster a wander down the street saw supplies of Dr Pepper and toothpaste purchased. And then back to the station.
Where
172001 was caught to Blakedown then I swapped to the second unit 172002 back to Stourbridge Junction. Getting worried about the lack of trains to Warwick Parkway, I decided to head in that direction, so as not to miss the last train. Real time trains is really handy in that respect!
172344 was had for haulage to Snow Hill.
170502 was passed at Lye, and 68010 was following it.
172336 was passed at Jewellery Quarter.
On arrival at Snow Hill I was greeted with 3 Chiltern winners in the form of 168324+168321+168215. I was wondering which unit I was going to travel in to Moor Street, but, in the mean time duds 170502 and 172345 went through, the 170 was ECS. Then
68014 came in with 12616, 12605, 12614, 12607, 12608, 10217, 82304, I got on at the very back door so I could go into the DVT to ask the guard a meaningless question to bag it for haulage. I caught it to the Hawthorns.
A quick cig, and then
172339 took me back to Snow Hill.
Duds 168107+168218, followed by duds 170506+
153356+153371 took me to Moor Street, where I caught 168218 to Warwick Parkway, where I saw duds 70010+70006 head north and 66503 head south.
A taxi back to the motel and now a beer.
Long Marston tour is to follow.....
