Go on a 90 from Stratford

If you board this train going towards LST at Stratford you'll get charged a Single from Chelmsford - London, likewise towards Norwich going the other way...

I don't think so, at least not heading west. The arrivals/departure boards at Stratford show the service as for Liverpool St. We got on it once behind the loco, guard checked tickets and said the vestibule counted as first class and we had to move down the train.

I have regulary found Freightmaster in the shops, notably at the specialist transport bookshops like Ian Allan or alternatively at bookstalls at major transport events such as bus rallies!

No worries, now I know there are actually supposed to be a good few 60s up and down that's enough.

As for finding it, I've yet to find it in Ian Allan in Cardiff, WHSmith in Cardiff usually has either an out of date copy or none at all.

Err yes they DO and WILL charge you for the quoted fare as its stops to SET DOWN only.

If it is advertised as stopping with destination LONDON LIVERPOOL STREET then it is counted as a stopping train allowing you to board. SET-DOWN is NOT listed on the platform describers.

In my experience at Stratford, no trains to Liverppol Street leaving from platform 9 are not shown on the summary departure screens, all Liverpool St pasengers are directed to platform 5 for a 315.

The Skodas are only advertised at stratford in the direction of Norwich, where they pick up only in this direction.

Jon B & Sprinter are correct, for example, at London Waterloo, the 159's are NOT advertised to stop at CLJ because it is pick up only, they don't "Set Down Only" at Clapham anymore...

On the Wessex network, the last train from CDF - WAR is Set down only beyond Bath, thus not advertised on the screens...

We are not talking about Waterloo, but Liverpool St is as you describe, same as Waterloo.

As for Stratford, maybe it's changed in recent months but approx 4 months ago I personally saw with my own eyes seeing a departure board that listed the train for Liverpool St. If it is advertised you can get on it.

I am only reporting what I have seen.

If that was a one-off, or they are no longer advertised then I would not risk it. (IANAL However I am reasonably sure it'd be thrown out of court if you refused to pay. But, as I said, I'd not risk the hassle if it's not advertised)

Also look at Tottenham Hale
The screens on platform 1 don't mention the ex-Cambridge, or Stansted Express
I've seen 5 times so far people boarding the Stansted Express, gangs, you name it ;)
