There was a report on the UK bus industry on File on 4 tonight. Rather interesting - they were on about how the market is controlled by certain large companies and how poor bus services are - fare increases, frequent timetable shakeups (always reducing services) and filthy old vehicles. Part of it was from Costa Del Doncaster, a woman from Fastbuck was on about "continued investment in new vehicles". Oh look, there's a 16 year old bus rolling past, late... They also said bus patronage is on the decrease by about 12% per year - not surprising really. It will be availible on "Listen Again" at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4

Fortunately, if you live in an area mainly untouched by big groups, investment in new buses is rife...Nottingham City Transport have a new fleet now they are getting round to upgrading it, and Trentbarton (an independent) have a fleet that is nearly totally low floor, mainly Scania Solars now.

Bus patronage on a whole in the Nottingham area is up, thanks to this and other investments.

But Arriva dont like running the 99 for some reason...no Sunday service, and buses after 1634 very rare, apart from thoses contracted by Notts CC
