If you count coaches used for volunteer accommodation, the Bluebell has 4 Caledonian Sleeper coaches.

Didn't the Mid Hants used to have a good handful of mk2s years ago?

I know the Wensleydale railway has some too.

The Northampton & Lamport railway has a few

Several heritage railways have Mark 3 sleepers in use as volunteer accommodation, including I believe the East Lancs, the Ecclesbourne Valley and the North Yorkshire Moors to name but a few.

I recall the Mid Hants having one lingering out near Alton or Medstead.

The East Kent Railway have three ex Gatwick Express Mk2 coaches, which two of them can be run paired with 73130 and the Class 489 driving trailer coach there.

Doesn't the Midland Railway have a decent selection of ex-GA Mk3s?
What haven't been used since arrival, AFAIAA. The Mid-Norfolk also has several LHCS Mark 3s.

The Midland Railway - Butterley, Colne Valley Railway and Nene Valley Railway all have operational HST Mark 3s based there.

There's a rake of MK3s (along with HST power car 43044) located at GCR (Nottingham) at Ruddington.

18 or 19 Marks 3s at the Mid Norfolk Railway plus DVTs

Polar express when it starts in a week will be load 10 all Mk3s - Mk3 short set and DVT has been out a few times this season as well

Too far from an HST...

That's a shame. They did look a little unloved, wonder what the long term plan is?

I'm glad push-pull sets are being represented in preservation. I can only hope the Mk4s will recieve similar treatment.

Last time I was there the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway had a former Gatwick Express mk 2 rake, together with an MLV and a 73 to push/pull it.

The Barry tourist railway used to have a couple of Gatwick MK2s to work with 73118, but now that's gone I assume they went to, not that the railway exists at the minute anyway

If the Mk4s are as unreliable as those tfw use, they'll be a challenge in preservation!

The SVR diesel galas often use a Mark 3 rake with a 37/4 or 47/4 to provide ETS to work with modern air-brake only guest locos (I've seen them with classes 56/59/60/69/70/88), as their own stock is vacuum braked, although at the most recent gala they used a dual brake class 20 as a translator instead.

but that rake doesn't belong to the SVR as far as I am aware

Where would RDB8977091 fit into this discussion? The underframe is a Mk1 (formerly M21234) but the bodyshell is a 1980s rebuild using Leyland bus components. It currently resides at the Llanelli & Mynnydd Mawr railway.

Weardale replaced the majority of their coaching stock with ex GA Mark 3s a few years ago. If I recall correctly their only remaining non-Mk3 loco lhcs is one example each of a Mark 1 and a Mark 2, neither of which are currently operational.

Does anyone know what happened to the Rail Charter Services Mk3a rake? Same with the DATS Mk3as, did they end up on a heritage line or all go to ERS?
Rail Charter Services is/was part LSL, they still have their Mark 3As, most if not all now in BR liveries.

I hadn't realised RDB 977091 was saved. :) Early 1980s, I saw it regularly on Class 1 expresses on the south WCML. This link is for forum's readers unfamiliar with the coach:

A wicked part of me wonders if the people responsible for procuring those Mk3s now stood idly (e.g. not for on-site sleeper accom or revenue use) - are the type who impulse purchase railway models which they don't actually need on their layout. ;)
I'm guilty of doing that on the models - so I am staying well away from "full size" second hand temptation... :D

Not anymore. The Mk3's have moved on and now reside, temporarily, on the Mid Norfolk Railway.

The Barry rake has moved to the East Kent Railway, where it is now running with the 73 there.

There are some ex Caledonian Sleeper Mark 3s and some ex HST Mark 3s stabled outside Kidderminster though!

Owned by LSL and used either as spares or for the testing of their locos when on the line.

The Fear Of Missing Out writ large - Got to grab a bargain while there's a job lot mark 3 sleepers going for a song. Now, what to actually do with them all...must have some spare siding space somewhere...
