It is now possible to buy priv rate fares on the Caledonian Sleeper website. Details of how to book are on the ATOC Rail Staff Travel website under News & Offers.

It can be done, there just isn't the will to do it. Getting fed up with being forced to use ticket offices to get the discount. I was delayed the other day because the clerk at the window did not know how to issue a point to point ticket, then there are the guards who keep telling me to buy a ticket from the TVM when I show my Priv and ask to buy a ticket from them before boarding their train <(

Very handy, but the standard class solo berths seem to be no more.
Not for me any more.

And then there are ticket offices with shorter hours (or none at all). This was one of the things I raised in the Thameslink ticket office closure consultation - that many tickets/discounts are only available at ticket offices.

I don't understand why 75% discounted tickets can't be bought from TVM's or online. Like most other discounted tickets they are not valid without the relevant facility (e.g. Railcard) so why the issue?

You know how many people would buy them when they are not entitled to?

Enough people "accidentally" buy child tickets or railcard discounted tickets. With PRIV tickets there is an element of trust and this would be lost if anyone could buy them from any machine.

The closest we could get is a secure website linked to your personal PRIV online that you could then pick tickets up from a TVM.

It is bad enough that this is on a public forum, and that ATOC have posted the information publically, makes me wonder if anybody will try to buy these tickets without a PRIV online!!

I doubt that would be a major issue here- given that all Caley Sleeper services have compulsory reservations. I've always had my Priv checked when boarding (or in the cabin if the attendant was busy at the time).

Through my own TOCs's website I can buy tickets for family and friends and have a staff applied. I simply have an extra step at log-in to achieve this, and it proves that applying a Priv discount should be possible without too much additional work. I sometimes think that the industry sees its own staff as those most likely to misuse tickets (and passes).
