I think the PTS test varies from company to company but main stuff you will need to know are track layouts, lineside signage (basic ones limited clearance etc.), power supplies and switch off and emergency procedures.

It's not hard and you will get the training before the test, read the rule book from the link in the post above to get a head start, good luck with it.

Many thanks Ian! that was of use, any idea on the questions? cheers

You also get diagrams of OLE and track to label - contact wires, droppers, 4ft, 6ft and so on. Simple stuff.

The PTS exam is easy if you listen in the sessions. Everything on the test is in the material that will be delivered to be you by the trainer. If you want to pass, you just need to listen and take notes. It really isn't hard if you pay attention.

Don't worry too much about it, it's a lot of information to go through but most instructors are quite patient and also don't like to fail candidates. You will learn the PTS course in the classroom before sitting the final test paper and as said before, it's all covered in the course work.
Good luck!

Read G1 module of the rule book, available on rgsonline website, pretty much all of it is covered in there. But just pay attention in class and you'll be fine, I don't know of anyone failing it.

""Etaziya" Hi i have my PTS in the next week what i can tell you is YES you dont need a sponsor but its expensive if you dont have one! i was extremely fortunate in that a major company paid for my DNA/Medical & PTS i think it was around £650-700 all in, you should join a facebook group called "Railway times" & ask the boys there as its a dedicated group for the boys on the tracks & if they dont know then its not worth knowing!

Good Luck with everything keep me posted mate!! BTW these boys on here have been diamonds to me! very helpfull!!
