Good evening,

I May be visiting a Hornby Model Railway Exhibition in Bellgrove Road, Welling, Kent, this coming Saturday 05 May. It's not an area I know very well. Does anyone know of any decent pubs that do food at lunchtime in that area or Bexleyheath which is one stop along the line.

IMHO the best pub - by far, far, far, in that area is "The Robin Hood and Little John" on Lion Road in Bexleyheath

Take note that it closes from 3 to 7 (Food menu on the website)

I can't immediately think of any other pubs that I would go out of my way to recommend round there to be honest. There are some that are OK, but others that have seen better days, and some that are just plain rough or otherwise unpleasant.

(If you do go there, from Bellegrove Road Welling, you'd be better off getting the no 89 bus toward Bexleyheath, rather than the train - Bexleyheath railway station is a bit out of the way, in a mostly residential area, 10 mins walk or so from the main town centre area)

I can recommend the Toby Carvery at Crook Log. It's on the main road from Bexleyheath to Welling almost opposite the Crook Log Sports Centre and near to the north-east entrance to Danson Park. I concur that Bexleyheath station is not best placed, although it's not that far from Crook Log. You could probably walk it in 10 minutes, whilst I reckon it takes 15-20 minutes to walk to the clocktower from the station.

Map here.

Many Thanks to you both for the very useful info, they both look good, I may have to "sample" them both as they are not too far from each other. Rgds.

Well I followed your advise after going to the model railway exhibition in Welling on Saturday, which was very good, I did buy a couple of items there. Then I went to Bexleyheath and can vouch for your positive comments about the Robin Hood & Little John where I had a most enjoyable lunch and drink. The food was good, prices fair and the service was good, staff and locals very welcoming. Would def go back there again.
