Does anybody know if the following units are still in service (haven't seen any of these units running this year)
Victoria Line 1967 stock 3017, 3036, 3046, 3051, 3064
Metropolitan Line A stock 5052, 5068, 5142

By the way I am aware that around 1/4 of the 1967 stock has probably now been withdrawn as 2009 stock up to 11031/032 is now in service

I'll check my notes for you tonight; I did a lot of Victoria Line and Met Line photography back in July when I had a 30 day permit and I got a large chunk of the stock on both lines back then.

I'm pretty sure I got 36, 46 and 51 in that month on the Vic and at least 2 of those 3 on the Met ring a bell in my mind.

3017, 3036, 3051 and 3064 have been withdrawn. I'm not sure about 3046.

Below is a list of 1967 stock that I posted on District Dave's forum recently. As no-one seems to know all the units that have been withdrawn, I included the most recent time a unit has been seen in service, so that if the list is updated often, we would be able to work out which units have been withdrawn:

That's a useful list; when I check my notes tonight I can probably fill in a fair few confirmations of still in service dates for the blanks.

43: 29th July
44: 16th July
45: 29th July
47: 29th July
49: 16th July
50: 29th July
54: 29th July

Many thanks to Peter Mugridge and astock5000 for the updates. I have been doing quite a few 'long distance' bashes on these veteran units recently (Brixton - Walthamstow, Aldgate/Baker Street - Amersham/Chesham etc). No doubt I'll be doing similar trips on C stock from next year before they get withdrawn.

5068 was reported elsewhere as running to Upminster(!) last ecs for wheel lathe attention. Apparently it was the first A stock ever to that location and had to run slowly as it had to effectively act as the guaging run as well!

So... it's still an active unit.

I did a Paris day trip yesterday which meant using the Victoria Line across London to / from St Pancras so if it helps...

On Thursday ( 4th ) I had 70 + 06 for haulage and also observed 80 + 24.

Last night ( 5th ) I had 04 + 47 for haulage.

Out of curiosity - the (EDIT: old) Vicky line trains are composed of 2 half-sets - there seems to be a second cab in the middle of the train, but the other half doesn't have a cab - what's going on there?

Also - how many trains (8 cars) does the Vicky line have? Those new ones are properly quick off the mark.

The 1967 stock is formed of pairs of 4 car units which were built as double ended. A few years ago when the cabs were upgraded, some were left untreated and are always formed in the middle of the train - these are known as single ended units but do still have the second cab; it's just never used in service.

Some units had both cabs upgraded; these are known as double ended units. They can be identified by the livery - the cabs in the middle of the train are painted round in the same way as the outer cabs, whereas on the single ended units these middle of train cabs have plain paintwork round them.

The new 2009 stock is still formed of two four car units, but they are built with only one cab per 4 cars.

There were 43 trains of 1967 tube stock. They are being replaced with 47 trains of 2009 stock.

That isn't exactly correct. That's what happened to the A stock when it was converted to OPO, but the 1967TS were always OPO.
There are two reasons why there are single ended units - some had their ATO equipment removed (due to a shortage of spares), and other inner driving motors are actually 1972 Mk1 tube stock, and were never fitted with ATO. At some point a decision was made to keep units 3058 - 3079 'double ended' for flexibility.
This is why the numbering is messy, instead of having the first 32 units 'A' end, then the next ones 'D' end, etc - like the 'A' stock is (sort of).
Some units had both cabs upgraded; these are known as double ended units. They can be identified by the livery - the cabs in the middle of the train are painted round in the same way as the outer cabs, whereas on the single ended units these middle of train cabs have plain paintwork round them.
The double ended units also have fittings for the inter car barriers on the cab ends (the single ended ones obviously don't need them on their outer ends).

Also, unit 3102 has been withdrawn.

Spent some time on the Victoria Line this morning, from about 10.30 to 12.00, and of the 26 off peak diagrams that were running, 9 were formed of 2009 stock. I took the opportunity of noting all the 1967 stock that was running today - but remember this is off peak only and is therefore not exhaustive, but it will confirm that certain units are still in traffic for the purposes up updating the stock status list from earlier in the thread:

11 + 84
79 + 59
22 + 23
03 + 85
05 + 49
28 + 55
40 + 41
26 + 82
39 + 67
50 + 72
71 + 33
47 + 04
35 + 62
37 + 14
76 + 58
54 + 86
74 + 81

And the highest numbered 2009 pairing in traffic today was 11037 + 11038.

I was positioned between Victoria and Seven sisters, so I will not have missed any short trip workings from the list.

PS Astock5000 - Yes, I'd forgotten about the 1972 stock conversions!

I was also on the Victoria line yesterday (on 11033 Victoria - Warren Street, and 3139 Warren Street - Blackhorse Road).

Unit 3054 is on your list twice (shown as running with units 3047 and 3186).

At last. I still keep ending up with them on a daily basis though :(

Does anyone know which cars were the ones with the perch seats fitted, and whether they're still in service? Was it 3186?

I saw the following in service, as of January 3rd 2011:

3067, 3028, 3061, 3060, 3050, 3184, 3078, 3075, 3111, 3072, 3005 and 3149

I'm aware that some of them are probably 'D' end units and I've given the 'A' end number, but if I'm honest I'd say that single-ended units are getting much rarer, and all the double-ended units appear to be surviving.
