Sometimes, Avanti West Coast services from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston stop at Lichfield Trent Valley. Usually they do not.

However, it would be extremely convenient for me to request for the train to stop at LTV. Am I able to request this?

Cheers

Almost certainly not. If it's not advertised the only reason they'll add a stop into a 125mph train is if the service has been disrupted and there's no other reasonable way to get you to the station.

EDIT: You are more than welcome to engage with Avanti to get LTV stops added into future timetables, but the next available timetable for Avanti to bid for is, I think, May 2022.

I’m afraid that such a request would almost certainly be declined unless the service was severely disrupted, as it could disrupt the timetable significantly on the busiest main line railway in Britain. A special stop order would need to be agreed with Control and would only be granted in special circumstances- a train manager (guard/conductor/whatever you call him or her) cannot simply tell his or her driver to make an out-of-course stop on a main line railway except in an emergency (and for Lichfield the signaller would need to know about this as it requires the train to be routed onto the slow lines to reach the platforms).

As unhelpful as this sounds, you will simply need to find a service which is timetabled to stop at Lichfield- try to use National Rail/an online journey planner to find a direct one where possible; in a worst-case scenario the journey should be possible with a change at Crewe.

No chance

Can you imagine the uproar from other passengers, if passenger is granted an unauthorised stop at a station when the train is not timetabled to stop there, other passengers will be then be demanding the train stops at their station of convenience, when the train is planned to not stop there, & create carnage, train taking longer than it should do creating pathing issues with other trains & so on.

Not sure what the thrust of the question is! You can ask for it to be included as a stop in a future timetable review. You can’t, however, turn up tomorrow and just ask for it to stop like it’s an Uber.

You can write to Avanti to ask them to consider amending the timetable

You could write to your MP which may be relevant if you live in that area

However it is unlikely to happen as the train would need to be re-timed and pathed onto the flow line. It can affect many other services on the line.

It wouldn't happen unless there was a large increase in demand.

West Midlands Trains operate an hourly stopping service between Euston and Crewe; from Manchester you can change to this at Stafford (or Crewe)

Lichfield Trent Valley to be a request stop on the WCML?!

Can just imagine someone stood on Platform 1 at Lichfield TV vainly sticking their arm out as a Pendolino appears in the distance (from the Tamworth direction) on the Down Fast line.

I was once at an unnamed busy station which has platform staff and a station supervisor. I overheard a passenger speaking to the supervisor that their next train to x was not for a while, so the supervisor said to the passenger, in reference to the train that was just pulling in which wasn't scheduled to stop at x, that "I can get him to stop at x if you want me to". I don't know if that ended up happening or not but I was a bit surprised that the supervisor had the authority to request the traincrew call additionally purely for the convenience of this passenger.

How long ago was this, and was the train in question an express to london requiring a weave in order to serve the additional stop?

Over 10 years ago and no it was a local train, albeit not quite a 'stopping train' and not going to London.
