Anyone know which end the 37 is (Skipton or Appleby?)

Just had a look on their website and they still look to have tickets available every day until the end of the month - have ticket sales perhaps not been great so far?

The 37 is on the Appleby end so will lead northbound unless any shunting takes place.

For those in doubt, (yeah probably just me) I have had it confirmed to me that 37521 will be operating the service northbound for one week.

37521 (North) and 47593 (South) for the first week of operations whilst LSL batter another 47 back to life.

Here's a couple of pics from today's ECS movement which I was on for my brief for the next 8 weeks. IMG_20200719_152708.jpg

Correct. A seperate 47 will then replace the 37, following repairs; this has occurred due to a shortage of 47s,

I like the photos and the Green Diesel loco. The train looked longer than I thought it was going to be, seemed to have 4 IC carriages and another Blood and Custard?

I thought it was 3x Mk3A FO + 1x Mk2 BFK. It appears there's a fourth FO.

How did the 37 become numbered 37521?

the 37/5 subclass are those which were refurbished with new alternators, etc, and do not have ETS capability (the 37/4s are the same but do have ETS).

It was originally 37117. I had a few runs with it in Scotland back in the 1980s in that guise, but never as 37521. Like all LSL locos, it does look very smart.

BBC Breakfast are covering the service this morning. Just two passengers booked on first service from Skipton.

I didn't expect there to be many but that is not good.

The problem is I'd like to do it, but needing to book with somebody in your "bubble" is a bit restrictive for the enthusiast market.

It may take a while to potentially build up custom however it always looked a questionable project to me, only running to Appleby is questionable for a start, while the local establishments in Appleby might welcome some potential extra business its very small and Carlisle would offer more of a destination.

I think the issue for me was trying to launch it in the teeth of a global pandemic. I think the idea has a great deal of merit but this was not the summer to try and do it in.

For interest here are today's booked passenger numbers...

0835/1758 return has 12 booked
1035/1612 return has 6 booked
1220/1438 return has 40+ booked

After todays BBC advert the website has subsequently gone down due to unprecedented amount of traffic

It's firmly not aimed at the enthusiast market.

But the same applies to any single person, enthusiast or not - unless you are travelling with someone else it is very expensive as you would have to buy two tickets.

The impact of BBC coverage for a business should never be underestimated; it’s marketing of a type that money can’t buy.

I was working for a business that hosted an outside broadcast after hours for a regional news programme. Within ninety seconds or so of going live, the ‘night bell’ for the ‘phone system started ringing incessantly, clearly audible on air. We were frantically trying to pick up every extension in the place to stop the bells, as we couldn’t quickly take it off night service. The calls kept coming for hours and then days after.
