An angry rail commuter allegedly slapped and racially abused a security guard after refusing to show she had a valid train ticket even though she was a season ticket holder.

Rajveer Sandhu persistently ignored requests from a conductor and security guard to show her ticket as she made her way home off a train at Slough railway station on February 17, 2015.

She then lashed out at Brandon Thompson, slapping him in the face and calling him a 'monkey' and a 'black b******', jurors at Reading Crown Court heard.

He held her arm as she tried to make another attempt to get round him in a bid to get her to show she had a valid ticket however, his colleagues told him to let her go.

Sandhu is then accused of turning to them and flicked them the middle finger while shouting: 'It's because you are just jealous because you can't f*** me' as the reason why she had been pulled to one side.

However, it emerged that the 25-year-old passenger had a season ticket and was in possession of it when she was stopped.......

Interesting case, I would have thought there would be witnesses or CCTV.

It amazes me that in this day and age there are still people who seem oblivious to the invention of CCTV....

Wonder why have BT Police not charged her with making a false statement?

Basic, straightforward one, that.

Make an example? Racially aggravated assault will hurt a lot harder the her personally and hopefully set her as an example to others who do that to staff.

If she did have a valid season ticket, what is her objection to showing it when asked to?

Usually it is only fare dodgers that indulge in this kind of behaviour.

Mind you from reading previous threads on this forum there are some people who get very shirty about having to show their ticket, because obviously the rules don't apply to them, and using their iPhone/other electronic device is much more important.

IME a lot of season ticket holders don't like using automatic gates due to them 'wearing out' the mag strips etc and then having to get them replaced.

This doesn't excuse this sort of behaviour (as reported) however, which, if true, should earn the perpetrator a court case(s) and the immediate cancellation of their season ticket and a banning order from the station & TOC(s) concerned.

Frankly if excessively poor passenger behaviour (as per the account above) was 'punished' by immediate bans etc then the 'word' would soon get around it wasn't worth the punishment.

Very few people positively enjoy showing their ticket repeatedly some react in a completely OTT way however.

Serious? Couldn't be bothered to get a ticket out, but could be bothered to slap and verbally abuse someone.

but the scummy conductor had the audacity to ask somebody of her standing to prove she has the right to travel, how very dare you

(sarcasm btw)

Unless she admitted this, I doubt there'd have been hard enough evidence at the time of her initially being charged with an offence. If she protested her innocence she can't really be charged with that at the same time as the original offence, and it's probably not in the public interest to pursue such a charge now, at this late stage.

Maybe, although perverting the course of justice carries a sentence upon conviction of up to 7-years imprisonment..

Rather than speculate why don't we let the justice system do its job.

The court will rule on the balance of probabilities but it's amazing how many people play the race card, ironically they are both from an ethnic minority.

She has, at the moment, not been convicted of anything, and it seems that her version of events is significantly different.
It's not impossible for people to make up accusations to cover their backs; even if they are rail staff, G4S, police, etc...

Making a counter-allegation when commiting an offence is always a good move - it muddys the water, and gives a good chance the CPS will drop the case entirely. Also, it means the victim of the assault has to be then treated as a suspect as well, thus casting another layer of uncertainty on their evidence (and putting them through the stress of "an interview under caution").

In view of all the above, there must have been pretty compelling evidence for the case to get to court, and not dropped.

Still, she's innocent until proven guilty. Not sure what good it does speculating here based on a couple of tabloid newspaper reports.

Of course she is (as is the person she made allegations about as well).

The court will hear the evidence and make a decision.

I look forward to hearing the outcome.

There you go, fixed that for you :D

Generally speaking (I have witnessed this in a work situation in a large company in London), the Asian and Black (Afro Carribbean/African) communities do not mix, and there is sometimes friction.
In this instance, is there any CCTV which can verify either/both accounts or is it one word against the other.
I certainly think that she would have been very stupid to refuse to show a ticket if she had one - arrogance/anger whatever.

These two posts are incompatible:
. . . . her initially being charged with an offence. If she protested her innocence she can't really be charged with that at the same time as the original offence, . . .

Maybe, although perverting the course of justice carries a sentence upon conviction of up to 7-years imprisonment..

The court will rule on the balance of probabilities . . . .

One of these statements just has to be wrong. Which is it?

I'm going to choose . . . . . . the second one!

She has been convicted of common assault, not guilty of racially aggravated common assault.

Angry commuter, 25, is convicted of slapping security guard who asked to see her ticket and told to pay nearly £1,500
Ravjeer Sandhu, 25, was ordered to show her ticket to a rail security guard
Instead, she launched a torrent of abuse at him and slapped him in the face
Today she was ordered to pay £1,500 after being found guilty of assault
She did have a season ticket but she refused to show it to the officer
Sandhu, a marketing account manager, was also acquitted of racial abuse

Silly cow, they should throw the book at her if they can.

Ignore that, I see she's been done. Maybe next time she won't act like a self-entitled brat next time.

The court fined her the equivelant of her Summer Holiday (staycation for her), and her picture is on the Daily Mail website, and every time someone googles her name, this will come up.
