Hi all,
I headed out to Sandyford yesterday to see could I catch the new Luas tram but it was not to be. Here are a few shots of Luas from out there and some work on the Cherrywood extension.

Enjoy!

Hi all,
Just a few shots from today from Connolly and a new location in Drumcondra. I have photographed in the latter place before but on the 'high line' above the area but today I took some shots of the nearby 'low line' that runs beside the canal and is used by trains to Docklands station. This passes beneath Croke Park stadium.

Enjoy!

Hi all,
Two updates from the last week.

1) Spent three days on mainland Europe this week. Flew into Brussels, then Thalys to Koln were spent two nights. Then ICE to Frankfurt and flew home. On the trip saw two diesel locos in Brussels, 218s in Koln and Frankfurt, German locos hauling Swiss stock (not sure if trains going to Switzerland or hired in stock to cover ICE failures) and a lot of loco hauled passenger and freight trains, including European 66s. Also a small preserved train in Koln doing an Easter special.

2) Just a few shots of the Luas extension works in Cherrywood and 086 on the Tara.

Enjoy!

Hi all,

Spent a few years yesterday evening at Adamstown and Hazelhatch & Celbridge to watch the evening rush hour of Heuston. Highlights include, 147 in Connolly, 071 in Platform 2 at Heuston, 074 repainted in black/silver, the mark 3 push/pull set in action and potentially bad station design at Adamstown. Other woes include two of the 6 piece Rotem sets facing the wrong way!

Enjoy!

Hi all,
Monthly visit to Kildare, ostensibly the April one, but delayed till today as I have not done Friday in a while.
Highlights include two orange 201s on matching Mark 3 rakes, two Mark 3 push/pulls in operation, two 201s on the Norfolks, one of them in Intercity livery, 077 on a driver training run, and 083 finally released by Inchicore on the rarely photographed oil train at Connolly.

Enjoy!

Hi all,
A few shots taken over the last few days, though only the last four by me. My contribution shows steam loco 186 returning to Whitehead on an RPSI special, as it passes through Balbriggan.

Enjoy!

Hi all,
I have done a few more scans for my 'Balbriggan Through the Years' collection. The new shots show more from the derailment of 123 in 1989, work on relaying the mainline and the rebuilding of the County Bridge in 1995 and a not great shot from 1997 when for one day, Balbriggan station became Bangor for the film 'The Boxer'.

Just look for the 'new' symbol on the first two pages.

Enjoy!

Hi all,
Despite the good weather I've only taken four shots so far this month!

Two DARTs in Connolly on Tuesday:
http://www.railsceneireland.fotopic.net/c1707495.html

And two 071s in Balbriggan yesterday.
071 on a ballast train:

076 on the Tara:

Hi all,
While others went looking for locos today I went out to Fairview to photograph the DARTs which are receiving new DART 25 logos for their anniversary. It was 25 years ago that electric services commenced in Dublin, the first real revolution on Irish railways in the modern era.
Three sets done so far: 8121, 8603/04 and 8122, the latter which looks immaculate but I could not photograph.

Enjoy!

Just took three shots today but they are slightly special. Thanks to Rail Scan and Rail Scene I can do a past and present.

From 01/09/1996 I present 209 & 208 in Connolly. 209 is on its own in Platform 4 and 208 is in Platform 2 waiting to do a service to Belfast:
http://railscanireland.fotopic.net/p44094337.html

And then from today, 23/06/2009 I present 209 and 208 in Connolly. 209 is on its own in Platform 3, and 208 is slightly hidden in Platform 2 with a service to Belfast:
http://www.railsceneireland.fotopic.net/p59141319.html

In the background of the past shot is a Mark 3 push/pull. In the background of the present shot is a 22000 Rotem railcar.

And finally, on a side note, there is a small anniversary tommorrow. On that date in 1994, Irish Rail officially accepted 201 into traffic with a special to Thurles. Today, 201 is in store and the Mark 3 carriages it hauled are also in store. It's eminently possible that the 201 are the last locos bought for the Irish network.

An odd update today, but there it is.

Hi all,
Finally got my pictures up from yesterdays IRRS Mark 3 tour. (I have a good reason for the delay!) Pictures include 152&171 on the tour, 076 on a ballast between Heuston and Inchicore, 144 & 162 at Inchicore, 073 at Roscrea, 177 at Limerick, 081 at Limerick Junction, 071 at Thurles, 077 at Connolly and finally steam loco No.4 at Connolly.

Enjoy!

Hi all,
Last year Rail Scene Ireland brought to you a Spanish DART in Balbriggan:
http://www.railsceneireland.fotopic.net/p48553263.html

And a German DART in Balbriggan:
http://www.railsceneireland.fotopic.net/p55179323.html

Now the triumvarite is complete with a Japanese DART:
http://www.railsceneireland.fotopic.net/p59247904.html

29126 hauled set 8603/04 to Drogheda today, presumably for wheel turning like the last two times. On a side note, 29126 has new style numbers on the front.

The rest of the pictures from today's lunchtime in Balbriggan can be found here, including 077 on the Tara:
http://www.railsceneireland.fotopic.net/c1286313_331.html

Enjoy!

Hi all,
Just a small update from me. It is a three picture montage of an odd working on IE that happens six days a week. Between Balbriggan and Skerries the Rosslare to Drogheda train runs wrong line to allow the Dublin to Belfast Enterprise to overtake it. The shots show the Rosslare train in Balbriggan with the Enterprise passing by and then the Rosslare train crossing back over to the correct line.

Enjoy!
