Hi All
Recently met a disabled guy viewing trains from his car on one of the over bridges south of Crewe. He explained good views from a car are hard to come by, so that got me thinking, why not ask all you knowledgeable folk where they recommend doing just that "Viewing from a car"
Location, TOCs seen etc, any facilities nearby, food etc.
I will kick off with a couple of good ones.
ASDA car park, Longsight Manchester. FREE.
Close view of all trains (slightly higher on embankment) out of Piccadilly (Stockport and Styal lines) Very busy all day and evening.
ASDA has food and Toilets
Avanti, Trans Pennine express, Northern, Arriva Wales, East Midlands, Freightliner, GBRF.
Stafford Station Car Park £12 24hrs (cheaper at weekends)
You can't leave once in (or you have to pay again) so if you need toilets its a short walk to station facilities. Tesco store a few minutes away.
If you don't want to pay for car park there are a few free spaces (2hrs during day) on road behind car park but gaps in hedge are small, unless you have a van to see over fence/wall.
Great view of everything that moves, day and night as its well lit. Night time logs of freight movements can be very good.
Avanti, Midland, Arriva Wales, Most freight companies,
