Courtesy of @HamsteadJuncti1Just showed this to my dad, he's a firefighter. He said most likely smoke and the inevitable water damage. They will have forced entry to check the loft space on the neighbouring properties, especially as they are terrace. Hope everything is alright for them and everyone is safe.
One person has been taken to hospital and firefighters are searching for other casualties after a fire broke out in a row of shops.
Seven fire engines and the air ambulance were called to the shops, which have flats above, on Chesterfield Road, Sheffield at about 10.30 GMT.
One person was rescued and fire crews are searching neighbouring properties, the fire service said.
People are being urged to avoid the area as the fire is ongoing.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known
Maybe not a fully appropriate comment given we don't know everything yet, even if intended as a joke?I wonder if they can now sell some items as pre weathered and charge a higher price.....
Ah - thanks for the clarification. My apologies to @Jaz avalley in that case; my response was a bit too rude looking back at it now.Don't worry. Rails is a big shop made up of several linked old shops, currently closed due to Covid. I doubt their business will be hit too much by the fire next door, but clearly an added distraction. See their latest website; https://railsofsheffield.com/news/articles/3711-coronavirus-lockdown-covid-19-update
Their Facebook page suggests business as usual for online and telephone orders. See; https://www.facebook.com/railsofsheffield/
No offence taken, and although the shop is closed to walk in trade it might well have staff working there, so your point actually is valid, mouth before brain in my case. It might yet be me needing to apologise.Let’s hope not.Ah - thanks for the clarification. My apologies to @Jaz avalley in that case; my response was a bit too rude looking back at it now.

I was going to post this on Monday but completely forgot. Jennifer E. Kirk, who runs the 'Monday Club' model railway livestream every Monday (surprisingly, I know), talked about this incident near the start of this week's stream. Link:There has been smoke damage to Rails premises and stock, but covered by insurance. Very disruptive but trading should be able to continue, see; https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/crim...business-would-be-destroyed-huge-fire-3129811
I didn’t think it was worth it’s own thread, but Rails have now announced their own locomotive and carriage weathering service, which undercuts TMC’s who have recently raised their price.
Im glad Rails are now offering such a service and it’s great to have more choice .
I was going to post an update on this thread the other week but I couldn’t find it. The man rescued from the fire subsequently died and the fire was caused by an electrical in the building next door to Rails where this man lived.

BREAKING: Tragedy as man dies after suffering severe burns in huge Sheffield fire
A man who suffered severe burns in a fire in Sheffield has lost his fight for life.www.thestar.co.uk
Yeah I agree it's a good idea to make it a general rails thread, or perhaps make a new one to keep the fire stuff separate. I've driven past the shop and it looks nice, but I've not been able to visit due to Covid since I got back into the hobby. I've done a lot of mail orders with them however and I've found them pretty good on the whole. That’s interesting news, I’ll look into that.
I think it might be worth changing the thread title to cover general news about Rails at some point but if I’m honest I don’t really know a huge amount about them having never actually visited the shop...
Does anyone know how they’re doing with repairing any of the damage caused by the fire next door?

Awful to hear.
