I wish Spitfire would include 33s on a Railtour. Also, a pair of 31s would be nice, but all depends on West Coast Railway's Safety Case.

Well 31s were fairly popular around the North West, I'm sure a fair number would jump at the chance to relive the old club trains - Kind of an R&B of the North, Manchester Vic - Barrow then maybe over to Carlisle, down the S&C and whatnot (I know the last two are not club but I'm just suggesting a route).

I am aware of the window restrictions between Barrow & Carlisle BTW, again just a suggestion.

Quite yes, it has been a rather unfortunate year for everyone.

If a tour wouldn't sell with a pair of 33s, then how about a 33/37 combination?

I wouldn't really combine track and rare traction though, otherwise you'll get swapped with bookings and leave quite a few unhappy about missing out on a tour for very different reasons!

A sulzer/English Electir combo is never going to be popular with class specific bashers

Indeed, a 33 / 37 combo was tried twice in recent years and both flopped miserably.

    * Spitfire York-Whitby in 2010
    * Joint Line Railtours Worksop-London in 2009.

How about a pair of BR Blue Class 20s & the possibility if ready of 37025 & 37175 for a Highland Line/Kyle & Far North tour?

    I like the sound of a North West R&B tour, with a 37 or 50 top n tail with either a 31?

I'd still quite like to do the Dungeness branch at some stage.

What's with the mixed class tours?

As for a pair of BR Blue 20s on a tour, that might take some doing to get done. There's quite a few things I'd like to see from railtours in 2012, the following is something I'd love to do though:

37s on a tour to South Wales (probably starting from Crewe) down the North and West and heading to Gwaun-cae-Gurwen, Cwm Bargoed and Machen. Oh, and whilst we're down there Baglan Bay would be absolutely awesome to get in the book, failing that I'd settle for a trip round Cardiff Tidal. And of course, there'd have to be a stop at Abergavenny on the return. Purely to give the 37s some serious work climbing up Llanvihangel! And a stop at Hereford of course for my own convenience ;)

Not that such a tour will happen of course, but it would be nice. Aside from that, a return of 40145 and D1015 to the mainline in 2012 on railtours would be most welcome.

Can't wait for 40145 to come back, but that's a long time off!

How about a pair of DRS 37s from London Waterloo to Penzance via Yeovil returning via Berks & Hants?

87002 to get some railtour work would be nice, although it dosent guarantee bums on seats. Euston to Kyle Of Lochlash 87002 to Mossend then a pair of 37s or 20s!.......Dream on it wont happen:(

I'll be happy to see somebody plug the gap left by Rail Blue Charters. Some blue and grey tours from Yorkshire to Devon, Cornwall, Kyle, Oban, South West Wales, Great Yarmouth to name but a few... Just some good, old fashioned, people moving, Merrymaker type excursions. Sadly, though, these may be a thing of the past? Hope not.

Would love this to happen, since I'd get to steward it - I presume you mean the West Highland Line/Kyle & Far North? As opposed to the bash being curtailed to Inverness.

Secondly, you'd never get the Kyle line and the Far North done in under two days - just too far and too slow. (I'm up for another Far North Bash, but I will sleep on the overnight section this time!)

Oh, these happen alright. I've seen a few tours where we've had a few track bashers/enthusiasts and a lot of members of the public going for a day out.

To be honest, any steam trip that starts in South Wales would be nice

We get loads of stuff running through, but the nearest anything starts is Bristol

I'd like many more trips to run on Sundays.
The majority of Sunday trains are day 2 or day 3 of multi-day trips. With 3 kids to taxi around to a million sporting and educational activities 7 days a week the one day I can free up better than any other is Sunday.

Tours starting from the Sussex Coast perhaps ?? Barely anything starts from down here (there was the Lewes - Ely steam train last year, which i heard went quite well, but that was it really).

I would pay to have a pair of 50s on a Kings Cross to Inverness charter, one of them being 50026 with the Cargo-D Blue & Grey stock.

I would like to have either a single or double-headed 50 tour to Kent & East Sussex, including Ashford to Brighton via Hastings.

Plenty of time for boozing it up that's for sure. The number of open crossings got on my nerves. Let's see how long it took when I went there, Six Bells Junction here I come...Worth copy-pasting the relevant part of my report of the tour from SBJ too:

"Now, the Dungeness branch is not known for fast running, and sure enough our run was to be no different. The amount of open crossings was, in my opinion, maddening. The constant slowing down to 5mph for the crossings was starting to grate on my nerves. When the realisation dawned that we had to do it all again in the opposite direction, I started dossing! At least on the way back we had 66710 leading, and indeed did all the way to Neasden Junction, so we had some much more serious power at the front to get us moving. It didn't make the journey up the branch any more exciting mind!"

Can't find the relevant times now, but I see it was booked about an hour from Appledore to Dungeness and back!

Steam + Mk1's on the Cumbrian Coastline - all the way Barrow to Carlisle.

    Ideally stopping at my hometown!

The last steam tour to make it up that far i think was the Tornado last year, i'd like to see more!

Perhaps there will be as it seems the only way to do any part of the Cumbrian Coast line by steam is to go the whole way as the turning facility at Ravenglass has been withdrawn.

I'm afraid it holds a special fascination for me. For years I've seen it curving away enticingly when passing through Appledore Junction. I've also always wanted to see a train go by when travelling along the A259, but sadly those crossing lights have never so far started flashing.

Traction would have to be a Thumper though.

A lot of love on here for 87002, hope theres some operators out there looking at this thread, The Royal Scot revisited Euston-Glasgow and back first stop Preston blue/grey stock would be so sweet!

I know Railblue had something along those lines plans but 86101 was down to spoil the party just like the old days when it appeared on many an 87 diagram!

I love all class 50's ...and you cant beat a hoover on the mainline, However something from the norm of 50031/50044/50049 would be nice.... I know all 3 are owed by the 50 fund and no other Loco's are mainline certified who belong to other groups.... But...

Id love to see one or 2 of the other class memebers on the mainline, I understand 50026 is getting there... anyone know if this is still going to happen?

Gutted 50007 hasnt made it back on the main line yet :(

Ah, I can perfectly understand that. For years I had the same feeling when going over the freight line that the mainline goes over just west of Neath. Got the same sort of interest in Robeston (yes I know a tour went there in the last couple of years, couldn't do it), although that's just from it being an annoying gap in my atlas.

The other bit of track I still want that annoys me every time I arrive into Shrewsbury from the south (don't notice it so much going east out of Shrewsbury or going south) is the curve between the North and West and the line to Birmingham. Still never been on it in either direction :-x Maindee Curve also used to annoy me endlessly, then I got it behind a pair of 56s. Annoyingly, I have to do it again because the bit I did on it has been ripped up!

Hmmmm, don't hold ya breath regards 50007 on the mainline, but as for 50026, it should in all likelyhood be back where it belongs next year.

As for railtours, i'd quite like a Waterloo - Exeter & RTN run with a 50 and nine on, starting/finishing at a reasonable time ( Or if possible 2 round trips? Did it ever happen? ) plus sticking in a number of the orinal station stops.

    &

I'd also like to see a trip from Portsmouth Harbour - Cardiff & RTN with a 33 and 5 MK1 coaches, yes i know prices would be steep to cover costs of a short train but i think it would be worth it, again, with some of the original station stops.

The idea being to recreate long lost loco hauled services, it could be done all over the country with diffrent traction and stock.
