With regards to the final comment, well I posted on one of them to ask when the 37s dragged a GC HST, so I doubt I'll get an answer then!

A lot of things I voted for I had to choose the best sounding one from the name/content of the thread prior to the event or whatever as a lot of the stuff I didn't contribute to/read/listen/see/attend/whatever.

Lots of interesting options for the various categories though, so job done.

Can't believe I didn't think of the end of the Valentas on FGW/NXEC for most disappointing event of the year!:o

I voted for them. Their performance is better than EMT, NXEC etc so Brandon, perhaps its time to not be stereotypical, maybe I should keep calling you veg ;)

You might be interested to know I nominated your gallery, tis the only one I frequent at all often :D

On the other topic, I'll hand Brandon a serviette to complement the knife and fork. I haven't bothered to compare NXEC, EMT and FGW performance levels lately so I'll take Liam's word for it that FGW beat EMT and NXEC. I know FGW were ahead of the others recently-ish, much to the surprise of most people, back in September/October this year so maybe they've done even better lately.

Time people took off the rose-tinted spectacles up there in Derby...:p

So thanks for whoever did!

I'd suggest he's travelled with them once. For 15 minutes. During major disruption as a result of suicide/terrorism/signal failure/major train failure/massive weather problems.

EDIT: And no problem Dave, thank you for a constantly nice variety of photos.

Then you can not comment on FGW. Until you travel with FGW, with an open mind, then please discontinue slagging them off.

Julian, No.

Why not? You completely dismissed FGW's MASSIVE performance improvement in the last 6 months or so, I'll completely dismiss any good EMT do. The fact, though, they've not continued MML's fantastic performance gives me good enough reason to diss EMT.

Why are any of those things disappointing? :? Trains are greener, fares are simpler and GC are improving drastically.

(And before Yorkie or someone comes along and says that fares are not simpler, passengers have been telling me how much they prefer it now they know when they can travel as the clue is in the name. It's only not simpler if you're booking long distance journeys and splitting tickets and stuff)

Except you can't, on some journeys Off-peak tickets are valid all day, on one journey Anytime is restricted and on many more it's only possible to find out the restriction for each type of "flavour" of Off-peak ticket by using a Journey Planner, asking someone to look it up on an internal railway system (National Rail Enquiries, ticket office, etc.). Also, a Super Off-peak return from Birmingham to Marylebone is valid on the 12.55 tomorrow but a Super Off-peak return from Birmingham to Solihull travelling on the same train is not valid.

And that's before you even start to mention the effects on Railcard holders, some of whom have seen their fares shoot up!

Hmm. Well around here, people know it is £6.40 to Manchester before 0900, and £4.80 after. Something like that anyway. And I have had numerous people telling me the new system is better than the old.

As I said, with longer more complicated journeys (a la your Solihull example) it is no simpler. But with the journeys the majority of passengers make, it is.
