Ashtead track and level crossing renewal
Engineering work will take place in the Ashtead area to upgrade the track and Woodfield Lane level crossing over the course of the weekend Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September
No trains will run from Ashtead station for the duration of the work (01.00 on Saturday 5 September to 05.00 on Monday 7 September).
A rail replacement bus service will be in place.
Please check with your train operator –
South Western Railway or
Southern.
What are the benefits of the work?
This project is designed to improve the reliability of the track and train performance. We will install corrosion resistant sleepers and rail through the level crossing, reducing the need for future maintenance work. Engineers will also reduce the gap between the train and platform, providing a safer station environment.
What are you doing for passengers and local residents who will be inconvenienced by the work?
Residents will be able to park at Ashtead station car park, free of charge from 00:01Friday 4 September until 23:59 Monday 7 September. A mini-bus taxi service will be provided to take residents on the north side of the crossing between the station and home if required (running from the north side of the station footbridge), and a dedicated contact number for residents will be made available. We are making all the necessary arrangements with emergency services in case access is required while the work takes place.
Will the work be disruptive for local residents?
Unfortunately, in addition to the service disruption and closure of the level crossing, the work is likely to be noisy at times. The work involves removing old timber sleepers and installing modern concrete and high grade rail. There will also be some late-night, prep and follow-up work taking place from Monday 31 August to Friday 4 September and Monday 7 to Friday 11 September, as well as further checks later in October. We are sorry for the noise disruption this may cause to residents.
