Railway Lamp Restoration Painting

I have recently purchased a BR(M) Lamp and whilst the paintwork is not bad I would like to repaint it. I'm wondering what type of paint to use, enamel paint, radiator paint, car paint. Anyone suggest a good option. Also gloss or Matt finish.

Do you want to make it look original or look pretty? If the former, use the level of glossiness that the remaining paint has; if the latter use gloss (and then polish it afterwards).
