If you've got full sets which are bound, then you may find one of the specialist railway booksellers like Robert Humm mayb be interested.

If not, then you'll struggle. I speak from personal experience having dealt with a relative's collection of such magazines. There genuinely isn't the interest out there, particularly on post war magazines. Their value is pretty much negligible.

Your best bet will be to donate them to your nearest heritage railway who often re-sell them, but you'll see they are usually resold for a few pence per edition.

Thank you for your response we have literally hundreds as they were my late fathers collection.

Think donating them will probably be the best thing.

You may find that some heritage railways may not take them either as they have little value. I am aware of three heritage railways where staff waste their time throwing away anonymous deliveries of such magazines.

It's very disappointing to hear of heritage railways throwing away such magazines (I like to collect them myself and am happy to pay for them at heritage outfits when I see them).

We receive far more magazines than people wish to buy. They have to be stored somewhere that is dry and where the accumulated weight can be borne. Sadly the relatively modest amount of income we generate doesn't seem to be worth the effort. (By the way we cant burn them either due to the composition of the paper as it clogs up the firebox).

Why ever do the publishers not see a market to put whole years of older magazines onto CDs and sell them as a space-saver.

It's a sad fact that the postage cost of sending the magazines to anyone probably far exceeds the value of the magazine, with very few exceptions. It's not only newspapers which are, or used to be, tomorrow's chip wrappers.

The Railway Magazine are currently putting all of their back issues into a digital Richie which readers can subscribe to.

VCT will take any rail mag, obviously the historical ones Steam Days type etc, rather than the Steam Days are more preferred as sell @£2.50 each for example...I visit them regularly ,and it is eye opening to see what sells and more interestingly what they are given, and its quite often loads Steam Railway,Rail etc, with just a few good titles in amongst them..!!
