Been watching some staff training videos from various TOCs / FOCs that have been uploaded on to YouTube and I notice all the productions are all presented by the same man. I watched videos from the BR era right through to present day FGW and he is the presenter of all of them. The credits in the LTS video name him as Paul Tyreman. Is he some sort of railway celebrity?

BR LTS (driving a 308 EMU)

Railtrack: (SPADs)

FGW: (intro to 180 DMUs)

Anyone know if he has genuinely worked for all these TOCs or is he just a presenter for railway productions?

On one final note. If you compare him in the LTS video to the FGW video - I imagine between 10-15 years has passed - he hasn't aged a bit. What's his secret...!

Yes. I was hoping a wiki on him would appear but otherwise I didn't bother looking any further.

Now I've dug deeper I've discovered he is a professional actor who has had roles in TV soaps including Coronation Street and The Bill. As someone who grew up without a TV and even to this day doesn't have one - I wouldn't know a TV personality if they came up and hit me in the face!

Considering he's seen driving a train in the LTS video I guessed that may of been his profession.

Having recited all the training material he could probably do quite a good job!

Interesting to use an actor for this kind of thing, I would have thought a professional TV newsreader would be a better fit. Either way, it would have to be somebody who could seamlessly run through technical terms well and do a great voiceover.

Somebody who can report well on an environmental story would be a top pick in my book, bonus points if it involves a volcano in Iceland. A good foreign affairs reporter would also be good, if they can report on internationally significant people like Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono or Yingluck Shinawatra and get the pronunciation right, then talking about technical items in trains like the flux capacitor shouldn't be a problem.

There are all kinds of people who crop up in railway training videos, a couple of the 'RED' series feature faces from The Bill if I recall.

We attended a rather extravagant customer service training project set up by our TOC, which utilised live actors within themed 'sets'. All very interesting, if a little bizarre!

On a similar vein to to OP, does anybody know anything about the voice in these vids:

He 'appears' (or not!) in many training videos, stretching from BR days through to Wessex Trains. He sounds like a camp Bruce Forsyth! :D

Really?
I disagree. I strongly favour leaving trained and acredited Railway personnel to run the Railways and trained and acredited actors to act - and what are 'newsreaders' if not a specialised actor (also known as talking monkeys in the industry - throw them a bit of paper and they read it back).

Add that he probably either has railway contacts or railway qualifications...at the very least he has experience and continuity! It might just be easiest to contact him for railway film jobs because he has safeworking qualifications or something.
