The majority of us on here are aware that you cannot buy rovers and rangers online except for Scotrail who do their own separately. But Joe Public is not quite so savvy, so when the National Rail website gives him a fare for his journey and then gives him the option of purchasing that ticket through one of the TOC websites what is he going to make of it when that ticket cannot be found and cannot be purchased, it has disappeared into the railway ether?
For example:
Sheffield to Burton-on-Trent, Day Return, the NR website comes up with £11.10, the cheapest option which is, many of you will already have worked out, the Derbyshire Wayfarer. Click the "Buy" button and you find out that you now have to pay over twice as much, £23.90 - off-peak return.
Is this acceptable?
Shouldn't TOC websites be compelled to sell the cheapest ticket available, even if it is a ranger or rover?
