They are relatively untried technology (certainly for high power mainline loco), and I would not blame Stadler if they saw what happened with the class 769s (a mere bi-mode, not battery assisted tri-mode) and decided to invest a bit more time checking their calculations and refining the design, just to be sure. Extra research and development would be amortised also in the Flirts to be built for the South Wales Valley lines, so perhaps all sides it would be better to wait for something that worked perfectly from the get-go?

A quick look on Stadler's site in the media section shows a vast array of contract awards and updates, but no mention of anything for ROG or DRS, which I'm pretty sure would have been there if a contract was placed.

Stadler seemed to have quite a full order book - as production may be halted in a lot of areas this will take some time to clear, and I'd be surprised if many organisations will be placing any orders until the dust has settled globally....

Apologies as I never seem to be able to link to anything, however ..... there was an article online by railcolornews.com dated December 2018 which I found by inputting "stadler class 93" on google, it was written by Simon Wijnakker who claims to be an "all round railway industry expert" and a specialist in the "European locomotive industry", Railcolor has the full array of twitter, facebook, etc etc so perhaps someone on here equally armed could contact him or Railcolor to ask what news he/they have

1. It’s Rail.
2. The first line says “are being ordered”, which is a clever use of words.
3. That was almost 18 months ago, you would expect to see images emerging of metal being cut etc.
4. I don’t recall seeing any press release from Stadler or Beacon about it.

In short, I do not believe they were ever ordered.

This. Simple. There is/was no order. No amount of research is going to unearth it as it doesn't exist. As I said before, the business case was marginal at best before the current situation and there wasn't a queue of lenders ready to support it.

They will be built?

That requires an order, which doesn't exist, and I'd say any business case, which was marginal anyway, is definitely in the shredder now.

I'd disagree with your comment on the business case. DRS's three key business areas (intermodal, NR infrastructure and nuclear waste) are really being affected by the current conditions.

This is about ROG, not DRS.

What?? You disagree but then go on to confirm what was said. Make your mind up!

Nuclear waste doesn’t cover spent fuel! The vast majority of nuclear waste traffic only goes from Sellafield to Drigg - a few miles down the coast.

But they have still used 88s on nuclear traffic.

@Mollman certainly meant to say "aren't really being affected", but forgot to check their post before submitting.
