More time to kill at the end of last week so I took yet another look or two at the Metropolitan line and scored another 15 S-8 sets so now over half way. With 62 down and 54 to go, now it will start to get difficult .....
And those 1996 tube stock sets continue to fall with another four units succumbing last week leaving a mere 17 to go - curiously most of those are Stanmore end units (even numbers) rather than Stratford ones (odd numbers).
Looks like I will have another free Sunday afternoon next weekend so I might try the Central line again as it would be nice to get the 1992 tube stock requirements down to really managable levels.

That was the last big bash of 2012, got a couple of chances for small ones before the year ends but that requires effort and I can't be bothered! Think I'll be too hungover on Monday to go on a bash and that's my next chance. Save funds for 2013's first big bash I think :D

The free Sunday afternoon turned out to be a free Sunday morning but that's just detail. While it proved to be a slow start on the Central Line, things hotted up a little and after the best part of three hours, I had managed to score another 24 1992 tube stock units and in the process missed three trains containing required units but next time ... The trouble is, the Central Line will get really difficult now as I am down to the final 20%.

Only five bashing days left for me this year. Can we go out on a high?

Unfortunately I won't get 08899 for haulage on the 29th now the BLS trip to Derby and Nottingham EMT depots is caped.

Maybe I should aim for Bo'ness instead and get 26038 (and possibly a required COLAS 56) for haulage.

I haven't posted on this thread before, but I must make mention of my getting 172 102 for haulage today because that was the last DMU I required from the entire current UK passenger fleet*. :)

Went to Germany for four days, put 61 more lines in my empty book :) Highlights were of course Taurus around Berlin where you can fill your boots - hire in MRCE loks downstairs (vice AWOL Flirt EMUs), DB 182s upsairs on RE1 and then have a cheeky leap on a PKP 370 between the Hbf and Ostbahnhof. Sadly the PKP ones are the later build and don't "sing". Rubbish.

For the more diesel-orientated, had a couple of 218s and still think they are pants.

Personally, I'm relieved the BLS tour is postponed, as I had already booked tickets to go to Bo'ness, such was the short notice of the BLS trip. I gather a 66 is more likely than a Colas 56. Hopefully there'll be a Colas 56 for a load of people to 'red pen' on Pathfinder this Saturday - unless 56302 appears to upset a large number.

Nicely done, must have taken a long time! I've still well over 430 DMUs to travel on in the UK, I don't expect I'll have cleared that list for a very long time!

Last two red pens for me this year, and I don't care that they're not trains:

H108
H046

I did actually clear the country before ( apart from a few trams ) but then they started delivering a lot more new stuff....

Similarly, until new stuff started arriving, I simultaneously held the entire Paris Metro - making good progress with their new MF01 and MP05 already though... :)

I could be in a similar situation myself before long - with the exception of pendolino extensions I currently need a total of 11 units in regular service by the TOCs (142052, 158713, 172333, 357008, 357216, 390156, 390157, 395014, 450011, 507002, 508128)

Similarly with London Underground apart from the S7 stock I just need 1995 stock 51501/521/522/612/613/675/676 and S8 stock 21001/002 and 21049/050.

56094 scratched on 15/03/87 piloting 47547 from Stafford to Birmingham New St via Cannock, Walsall, Perry Barr and Soho so it was good to have that again on the PF Thames Angermanagement tour after all this time! :)

I too scored 56094 and 60092 on the Thames Angerman tour on Saturday. Along with these I also scored 73006 before leaving Crewe yesterday after accidentally flagging it earlier in the year, it being confirmed as running when we heard the familiar horn of a 73 whilst loading up the car in the hotel carpark.

Happy Christmas folks, may the red ink flow for you in the new year!

73006 can usually be seen from the Tesco Car Park. "I'm parked by the 73" is a frequent saying when I'm letting my wife know where the car is parked!

Only five bashing days left for me this year. Can we go out on a high?

High numbers at least as the successes continue, albeit grabbing mediocre & easy to get stuff around London. Whole day outings are definitely not the norm in the winter months but deviations to/from work and short forays in and around the metropolis have been quite productive. Here's a round up of my "red pen" activity in the past week or so.

Thursday 20th December
A short deviation on the way to work gave me 2 * S-8 sets and 1 * 1996 tube stock.

Friday 21st December
I had two objectives for today, namely to ride the new part of the East London Line (does anyone have an accurate mileage Surrey Quays to Queens Road Peckham?) and to photograph the new GBRf 66s that were en-route from Dollands Moor to Butterley. In the process I managed to "red pen" 1 * 377/5, 2 * S-7 sets, 2 * 378/1 and 1 * 378/2.

Sunday 23rd December
A spare Sunday afternoon saw me heading for the Central Line where I managed to grab another 16 sets of 1992 tube stock. Also marked off were 5 * 2009 tube stock.

Monday 24th December
Christmas Eve is traditionally a late start and early finish at work so a roundabout way into work saw me score 1 * 377/5, 2 * S-8 sets and 2 * 1996 tube stock. I took advantage of the early finish to have a quick look at Fenchurch Street and in the process 10 * 357 were removed from the wants list.

Thursday 27th December
An unexpected spare afternoon and I head to Fenchurch Street again and managed to grab yet more 357s (another 13 fell).

Let's see what I can score between now and the end of the year?

Three new locos on Pathfinder's tour last Saturday - 66096, 56094 and 60092. It must be a few years since I scored 3/3 on a trip like that. Sadly, I'm unlikely to get a new loco tomorrow as expected, but a few winning units might be on the cards instead.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Today's trip to Glasgow proved to be quite successful. I had my last 320 (322) and also one of my last 3 Class 158s and one of my last two FSR 156s plus a 380. Also gave the Clockwork Orange a bit of a hammering. That's my final bashing trip of 2012, roll on 2013 - I'm hoping for my first new loco next Saturday!

Quite honestly can't be bothered to go and find all my notes to summarise my winners for 2012 after all. Safe to say there's not been as many as there should have been, but that said there's more to life than doing nothing but filling the books! Mind you, that said I've not accomplished much on *that* front either after all, but 2013 promises to be different...

Let's see what I can score between now and the end of the year?

And the last few days of 2012 did not disappoint. Here's a quick run down of my hits - again all easy to get stuff around London but they have to receive the attntion of my "red pen" at some point in time.

Friday 28th December
A free couple of hours saw me back on the Fenchurch Street lines where a further 10 * 357s fell along with my last two 172/0s so only the 172/1 variant to go and that will be another Class cleared.

Saturday 29th December
Having an almost completely free day, I turned my attention to a Class of EMU that I had never ridden on before - the 379s. On my way to Liverpool Street, I managed to red line 3 sets of 2009 tube stock and a further 3 sets of 1992 tube stock. Once at Liverpool Street I put myself in to yo-yo mode with five return trips to Tottenham Hale which yielded 20 379s (and I saw at least two more pairs but was out of time). Two thirds of the Class in one day was quite respectable. At the end of the proceedings, I managed to fit in two winning 317s to give a grand total of 28 hits for the day.

Monday 31st December
Bouyed my my recent successes on the LTSR and with the Benfleet block over, I decided to see whether I could further improve on my 357s. I arrived at Fenchurch Street and was on the move within 30 seconds with a winner. Over the next three hours a further 9 scores produced which just leaves four 357s to get - plus a few that I need to photograph as well.

So how was 2012 over all for me? In short, I had far more winners than I ever dreamed of at the beginning of the year. The last time that I had 616 hits (407 on the national network, 209 on TfL networks) in a single year was way back in 1984 when I first started logging Underground units (412 London Underground hits that year). I have to go way back to 1980, my peak year for loco bashing, for over 400 national network hits in a sigle year.

The 407 "national network" winners from 2012 break down as follows:
3 locos
2 Parry People Movers
63 Pacers
179 bogie DMUs
160 EMUs of varying descriptions

Here's to all red pen merchants having a successful, winning 2013
