Hi,
To the previous part of the series:
By Šinobus through the Cornfield 37 (50 p.)
August 18 2005
We return to the local train Moravice - Zagreb. Apart from Šinobuses, I also encountered the hardly younger 1141-004 (ex JŽ 441-016, SGP #65203 / built in 1967) at Karlovac.
The next orange meeting just 15 minutes later with 1141-218 (ex JŽ 441-728, Rade Končar 1981) at Draganići.
We crossed Sava River in the Croatian capital Zagreb at seven o'clock.
August 22 2016
The opposite view out of a tram eleven years later featuring an ÖBB class 1063 electric.
August 18 2005
Back in time: clean 6111-010 departing Zagreb main station in soft evening light.
Zagreb is situated perfectly in east-west direction.
Later in the evening, 1141-230 hauled B 296 "Lisinski" towards Munich. This time we stay in Zagreb...
August 22 2016
Options for a day trip? Well, for example the 1950 opened "mountain" tram line #15 Mihaljevac - Gračanske stube - Gračanski Mihaljevac - Gračani - (Gračansko) Dolje. From the terminal, you can change to a cable car up Sljeme mountain. Or go shopping at Super Konzum.
The steep line was being operated by two Tatra T4 units, usually meeting exactly at Gračanski Mihaljevac. The line was renewed the following year 2017.
More about Zagreb trams (in Croatian):
Tatras in the mist.
Of course, a proper mountain line needs a viaduct.
Idyll between suburban houses at Gračanske stube.
We approach the lower terminal Mihaljevac providing connections to lines 8 and 14.
I returned to the line in the afternoon.
Younger and older distracted by electronics.
I got off at Gračani this time.
View towards the city down below.
Meeting at Gračanski Mihaljevac as always.
Finally lucky with perfect spotlight at Mihaljevac.
CroTrams circling.
August 14 2009
For an island holiday in 2009, 1141-380 had hauled our IC 285 "Zagreb" from Hungarian border station Gyékényes to Zagreb. A class 2043 had arrived with Pu 3011 from Varaždin in the background - probably the last time I saw a 2043 in service.
Ticket counter restrictions.
July 10 2009
New TMK 2200 arriving.
August 14 2009
We took a tram to our relative and subsequently walked through the city.
Tatra T4 in older ZET livery.
Life around the main square, Trg bana Josipa Jelačića.
Saint Mark's church in the upper old town.
September 24 2003
Once, I captured the lighting of the gas streetlamps.
August 14 2009
If you don't want to climb the hill to the old town, you can use this funicular also operated by ZET.
Southwest view with tram and Samoborsko gorje mountains.
Works in the city center during the obligatory summer afternoon shower.
However, in the evenings the sun usually appears nicely, here in front of the city savings bank.
The lower town center is situated ideally for summer sunsets.
At Črnomerec terminal loop.
A little bit of shopping.
We returned to the apartment in Vlaška for dinner.
Later in the evening, we took the tram to the station for the "Jadran" sleeper express towards Dalmatia.
September 30 2003
The first time after the war, I visited Zagreb again on a trip to Sarajevo. 1141-101 (ex JŽ 441-425, Rade Končar 1981, 2008 modernized as 1141-302) had hauled our B 396 Ploče - Sarajevo - Banja Luka - Zagreb from Croatian border station Volinja back to Zagreb.
September 24 2003
We had visited the main square a week earlier. Second-hand Düwag GT-6 units from Germany were operated by ZET for a few years after the war.
More historic pictures in the next report part.
