I’m a bit confused now.
Is the 12.09pm I’ve booked deffo an IET and not a HST then or did the info revert back to HST?
If not a HST any idea which service from Worcester is deffo a HST even if it’s earlier or a bit later?
Thanks Philippa

The 12.09 ex Hereford, originally suggested to you, for Mon 10th was booked to be an HST. When the weekly short term amendments were issued, it was still booked to be an HST. As quite often happens, for whatever operational reasons, there are amendments to the amendments issued. This is what has happened in the case of your train on Mon, it is now booked to be an 800/3 (9 car IET).

What is the problem with 10-car IETs running to Cheltenham? As long as they use Gloucester platform 4 and don’t try and share Alstone Sidings with anything else during the turnaround, they should fit?

The problem is that the London services can use platform 2 at times when 1 and 4 are occupied. Moving the GWR service onto 4 starts to affect how the station moves work and adds time in, which isn't ideal for all the through services that serve Gloucester. A 9 car IET has no issues in going in and out of platform 2 with everything still platformed and moving in and out, as is.

On the subject of timing loads, they will all probably remain as HST until the new timetable comes in. There won't be an intermediate step.

Diagrams 1 to 7 will go IET in April/May. Currently the last three diagrams are due to go with effect from the May T/T Change date. Now that the Scotrail releases are all but complete and OOC closes this weekend, a more relaxed introduction IET programme can now take place, giving time for Hitachi to catch up with both deliveries and mods.

Ok that makes sense. An amendment to the amendement to the admendment and I suppose on the day itself anything can happen!
It's quite interesting though to find out how it all works. Not been on an IET so although Mike is mad on HST's and that was my surprise it'll be interesting to compare them.
Thanks everyone for your help.

If you're desperate for an HST on the inward working as well as the return, the 15:51 Worcester Foregate Street to Paddington IS an HST on Monday. It arrives London Paddington at 18:00 and then forms the 18:22 back again! Depends if you wanted to spend any time in London though - or not!

Oh brilliant thanks.I’ll ask if he wants me to change it.
Time wise might be ok on the Monday as the main reason for the trip is on the Tuesday we’re on the British Pullman bit of the Orient Express/Belmond train.

We’re on a 5 car IET as Mike said well let’s at least try it and then compare to the beloved HST.
The first class seats have really horrible material on them and it’s quite a bumpy ride and you get a vibration a lot of the time.
I’m sure this isn’t news to any of you guys but I’m shocked having previously been in the lovely leather armchairs of the GWR HST’s.
Seems amazing the company has invested millions in these trains and nobody has mentioned the seats/ride when ordering them.
The only positive I can say about the IET is they have quite a nice
shape at the front.

Huge thanks to everybody who assisted in me deffo getting onto the 18.21 HST tonight.
The HST first class experience is most definitely nicer than the IET first class and the ride just so much better.
In trying to be fair to the IET the only thing the HST does that the IET didn’t is to have a very squeaky vestibule/gangway.
The lovely chap bringing food round on the busy HST has come round twice in the time it took the guy on the quiet IET to even appear and even then the IET guy didn’t reveal all he had-it was only seeing him appear with the sandwiches we found out they existed.
Very odd!
Anyway thanks again to all who gave the
info.
Thanks Philippa x
P.S.The Belmond British Pullman is lovely!

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know if there's any HSTs out on the Cotswolds line today?

Ps: why are they stopping at Twyford?

Stopping trains from Paddington only going as far as Maidenhead with a turbo shuttle Reading to Maidenhead. Cotswold stops to maintain London connections at Twyford. Didcot shut but avoiding line open.

Presumably a power isolation West of Maidenhead for some reason?

Or, with Didcot shut, there isn't platform space at Reading for stopping trains from Oxford and Paddington to both terminate there.

Or, it's just more efficient to split the service at Maidenhead?

Tomorrow’s diagrams won’t be decided until late tonight.

I think the diagrams may have been decided on a touch earlier! Presume you actually mean the allocation of traction to the diagrams?

I posted a couple of months ago about planning an Exeter - Penzance round trip on a Saturday. I should finally be able to do so on Dec. 29th and the info thus far gleaned in this thread is appreciated. I'm no basher, gricer or the like, I just like HSTs so bear with me for two questions:-

If you trace back a diagram on RTT, it'll give you an educated guess whether it's a HST or IET

I know how to do that on RTT but what origins do I seek?

1. 1A78 1C85
2. 1A85 1C92
3. 1A83 1C89
4. 1A75 1C79 1A89 1C96
5. 1A77 1C84
6. 1L15 1U17 1L25 1U27
7. 1A80 1C86
8. 1A81 1C87
9. 1L28 1G11 1L50 1G29 1L67 1G47 1L91 1G88
10. 1L40 1G21 1L58 1G38 1L85 1G60
11. SPARE
12. 1A28 1C31
13. 1A10 1C12 1A20 1C22 2E57

Can I put the head code into RTT and get the diagram? Those on 125group are still for the summer.

Thanks All, for your patience. Have good festivities!

I'm afraid you won't find the diagram in RTT The info is not in the public domain but many people Who have access can help you on the Forum

Thanks PHILIPE,

If someone would be willing to suggest some moves, I would be driving from Crewkerne to Exeter Saturday morning and launching from there as early as necessary (but hopefully at a civilised time) to achieve the objective, which is HSTs to PNZ and back that day. Hopefully, both an 8 car set and a short set should be in the plan.

As suggested earlier in the thread, I'll get Cornwall and Devon daily Rovers for flexibility. I assume these can be bought at the station on the day.

Anyone suggest an appropriate car park for Exeter?

Many Thanks All - Morpethcurve

I would use the detailed mode on RTT, it'll show you the headcode for a particular service.
The general rule of thumb, is that the morning Penzance - Paddington, and afternoon/evening Paddington to Penzance services are HSTs.

It's the usual 2 track Saturday service, ie reduced local services, but almost a normal mainline service bar 1 Bristol service per hour.

I do realise this is early doors for this guess, but would anyone be able to have a hunch if the 0903 or the 1033 ex Padd going to the south west will be 800's early February

The 1033 already is a 800 I believe?
It really depends on how quick the 802 introduction goes, but I think the 0903 will be safe in early February

Think 903 will still be HST as it comes off 1A71 0451 PLY - PAD which is at present a HST.
