A month ago I sent an email to Grant Shapps (well his office at the DoT)... requesting information on the opening day and what opportunity there would be to document the event.... this is the reply I just received
Seems CV19 gets used as the excuse yet again ! I also find it strange that no date is mentioned yet a date would be known in order to ensure the stakeholders are able to make time in whatever schedules to be available...
Around the same time I fired off an email to GreatNorthern to enquire how to apply for permission for a cab ride between Watton-at-Stone and the new Platform, or to place a camera in the cab so as to get a drivers eye view so to speak
This was the reply
The fact the train sits at platform 5 for around 12 minutes, the driver would have ample time to move the camera as requested..... so much red tape these days. I'm just thankful that the management at Spencer's have a better approach to public relations and supported me so much in documenting this project.
Network Rail and GTR are working closely together to complete the platform so they can re-introduce train services to the public as soon as possible. Public train services are expected to resume in early August and there will be a public announcement to confirm when the platform will officially open for passenger services.
Key stakeholders will visit the station to view the new infrastructure when passenger services commence. However, this event will be restricted to ensure that social distancing can be maintained, so regrettably we will not be able to accommodate extra people at the opening.
Thank you again for your email. We hope this reply is helpful.
Yours sincerely
Correspondence team,

Thank you for getting in touch requesting access to one of our trains so that you can finalise your video diary regarding the Stevenage Turnback.
Unfortunately, permission can not be granted for you to ride along between Watton-at-Stone and Stevenage, you will need to wait until the platform is opened for passenger use. Permission to leave a camera on the train to film the journey, which would require the driver to move it for the return journey, will not be allowed as the changeover time is restricted and this action would require extra time to follow through.
I know this may be disappointing to you but trust you find the information of help.
