Hoping someone can help! And this is the right place for this…

I’ve been looking at toc vacancies lately and can see 1 toc has resource planners and train crew diagram managers, does anyone know the difference between the two?

Diagram managers will ensure that every service has the appropriate train crew and that the diagram works so that crew don’t exceed hours, have a scheduled PNB etc and start and finish where they should.

Resources will allocate the actual member of staff to each diagram so if they have 10 guards to cover 12 diagrams, they’ll be the ones phoning round to find the extra 2.

something like that anyway but that’s my guess. :D

That sounds like the traditional (and necessary) split between train planning and rostering then - taking it in time order, rather than stress levesl!

Think of it as different levels of preparation.

Diagram Managers are longer-term - ensuring that train crew diagrams work, trains are fully covered. These diagrams need to fit in with the levels of establishement at each depot and meet their route knowledge and that diagrams are legal (e.g. driving time and PNBs). Traditionally part of the planning teams.

Resource Planners (or similar names) look 0-48 hours out to cover any gaps due to sickness, AL, vacancies based on the diagrams produced. They'll look to cross-cover roles from other depots, chop up diagrams to the staffing levels, ring round crew for overtime & RDW, or ultimately, look at what can't be covered and may have to be cancelled. Traditionally part of Control teams.
