I think the OP got the message a while ago judging by his tone, and technically it is still a mistake, and error of judgement, even if (especially if if in the latter case) intentionally.
I wonder what actions the lawyer the OP used as a railway specialist was able to take which a normal high street lawyer or the OP in their own right couldn't?
The value really is in the eye of the customer.
The OP was in a stressful situation. He considered it worthwhile paying a reasonably high price for some confidence in his representative and some peace of mind. He achieved that objective, and that to me, is well worth the money paid.
They may have achieved the same result, but would likely have given the OP more uncertainty and worry over the last few weeks due to his lack of confidence in them.
We all look at things differently.
