You haven't seen 66s storm with a fully loaded, 30-wagon set of HTAs off Newport. Now that is known to produce heavy clag and noise from anything. Indeed, even 37405 with just three empty, old wagons created the most interest in the entire day when I saw it doing the movement EB towards East Usk last autumn. Pity the HST was in the way of the clag. Anyone sat by the window by the 37 in FC would have had a wake-up call!

Gutted I didn't know this was coming down. What are they doing in Barry anyway? Can't say I've ever known GBRf to have any presence in Barry before, would have been beast to see that!

Anyone know if the carriages and that will be there later this week or next?

66714 + 73136 returned L/E last night to Stewarts Lane, as for the coaches they are to be used on the Vale of Glamorgan line.

Cool! Bashing ex-Gatwick Express coaches in South Wales! NICE!

66714 you say...Think I've seen that anyway. Would have been cool to see the movement anyway, not a common sight down here!

Any get any photos of it at all?

Nice shots there. Will make sure I visit Barry on my next rover! No idea what their plans for the stock will be, might use the coaches to replace/add to their existing MK1 fleet. What purpose the GLV serves I don't know, but if it can act like a DBSO, they'd probably use it to avoid top and tailing. I don't think that's the case though?

If I find out, most likely when I visit the line next time, I'll update this thread with it.

Have they not got an ED at Barry? If so perhaps they are going to recreate a whole GEx train!

How about a Cardiff airport express? Now theres a thought.

nice! yes dennis, well there WAS a ML 73 there, whatever its number was agian, so yes they could do a GEX service on the vale line, with the GLV!!

Dennis, if ATW made a CEX, guess what stock it would be!! (no not locos either :P)

GLVs can work with pretty much any locomotive - there's one preserved railway (Ecclesbourne?) that has a class 31 painted in GEx livery and works push pull with a few trailer and a GLV.

*Drool buckets in use again here*

The Vale of Glamorgan line has a Mainline blue-liveried 73, 73138 IIRC. They also have an 08 (08481) in a blue livery and a 47 (47768 ) in REX livery, as well as the variety of MK1 coaches and first-gen DMUs.

A Cardiff Airport Express, now that would be interesting! Potential 47 haulage there in South Wales to Barry and Rhoose! It would prove to be a very nice sight in Cardiff, especially before any re-paints!
