As is usual there has been a fatality on the Robin Hood Line at Newstead...a common place for people to jump the AHB crossing...as it is only single line across it, and most people think that trains are going slow to stop, when in fact some go straight through the station.

Robin Hood Line trains are going via Pye Bridge and are not calling at stations to Mansfield. Normal service is operated between Mansfield and Worksop.

Passengers for intermediate stations to Hucknall are advised to use NET instead. Passengers for Kirkby and Sutton are advised to use replacement buses or Trentbarton's Rainbow 3 service.

PLUS : There are reports of an incident at David Lane level crossing, this could be affecting trams (obviously not trains as they aren't running on this stretch of track for the time being...see above!)

So all in all not a good evening to try and get into North Nottinghamshire!

Just to confirm that this was caused by a cyclist jumping the AHB at Newstead village centre...one lad got across and the other got hit by the 75mph train.

An unfortunately common occurance...people don't see the barrier lowering the other side, or ignore it and go across to try and save a few minutes.

The David Lane incident fortunately wasn't true...but the footbridge over the railway line there has been closed for a year to replace its wooden deck...pedestrians are squeezing through the gap in between the full barriers either side to get across and risk their lives.

Wish people would have some sense!

Regards

Dave
