I was wondering if anyone knew what the earliest turns and latest finishes of duty were? I will be starting at Victoria subject to medical and was curious. I did ask back in my interview but it was so long ago that i've somewhat forgotten.

I was also wondering if there has been any change to the basic pay since i applied back in January and how sundays and rdw worked?

Sorry for the amount of silly questions but it's a long time since I applied and didn't expect anything to come out of the whole being put into a talent pool.

No nights as far as I know, think it was 0440am to 0125am.

Going from memory, used to be about 5 links at Vic with the old fossils in the top link having the best jobs, but I hear everyone on all links signs everywhere nowadays.

Thanks for the quick reply and info. Those hours work well for me. I was told about the links in the interview and was advised that I might be faced with working some more tougher diagrams in the beginning. I can live with that.

7 links these days. Earliest start 0408, which is empties to Preston to work 1st Clitheroe/Blackburn, and the last finish 0138, which comes back empties from working the last Clitheroe/Blackburn. The diagrams aren't that tough to be honest. You'll sign everywhere and everything bar Stockport-Hazel Grove.

You'll enjoy being here at Vic with us, great depot, lot....and I mean a LOT of banter.

PM me if you want more info.

I wouldn't mind a move to Victoria but I wouldn't want to put you all to shame when a professional arrives at the depot. ;)

Thanks for all the advice. Really looking forward to it now. Have to say I love the competitive nature between vic and picc. Can only be a good thing.

Well just to let everyone know, passed my medical. Obviously still waiting for the drug test results but have no worries on that part. Start date is confirmed as 20th August. Thanks for all the help and advice given. It's been greatly appreciated.

It's a marmite job,you will either love it or hate it,mainly down to your view of the general public and how they treat you (and how you treat them!).Some Guards have been on an eternity, others go onto other grades within the railway as soon as they can.If you haven't worked on the railway before ther may seem a lot to learn, but bear with it because as with most training the subsequent job is always a lot more straight forward than it first appears.

Asian Demon, am I right in thinking you're moving from VT?

The retail/Avantix part will be a walk in the park for you, just all the operating stuff to worry about now! :P

Not to mention the culture shock!!

My ex who was a Guard at Vic was walking down the concourse with some other Victoria crew when some of the Picc lot came in.....A Driver from Vic said 'You've come to do some work then?',
a Picc Driver replied 'Work?..here?...you've got more pigeons than passengers!!'

Actually moving all the way from london as it so happens. My previous jobs have both been revenue based in the railways so indeed Retail/Avantix is a non issue. The operating stuff will all be new to me so that's where I have to worry a little.

I have no issues with the general public so that's a good thing at least. The main side that will be new will be the operational side but otherwise I'm looking forward to it. After two years of Revenue, it'll be nice to do something different and more operational in nature.
