A bit of a complicated journey coming up...

Probably easier if you know why I'm doing it:

I live in Farnborough (Hampshire). I'm taking the car in to a garage in Epsom for repair (all day job). I'll be travelling from Epsom back home by train, then back to Epsom in the early evening. However I need to break the journey in Wimbledon to visit the DVLA.

If I buy a return from Epsom to Farnborough Stations, is this valid via Wimbledon, therefore allowing a break of journey?

In the evening, it would be easier to travel from Farnborough North to Epsom via Guildford, as there is one less change of trains involved. Would I be vaild for this?

Many thanks for any advice

Epsom is a routeing point.
http://www.atoc.org/clientfiles/File/routeing_point_identifier.pdf page 22

Both Farnborough stations are members of the Farnborough Group.
http://www.atoc.org/clientfiles/File/routeing_point_identifier.pdf page 23

PD+CS is the only routeing permission for Epsom-Farnborough.
http://www.atoc.org/clientfiles/File/permitted_route_identifier.pdf page 293

This allows:
PD: Epsom-Leatherhead-Effingham Junction-Guildford
CS: Guildford-Farnborough

PD: Epsom-Leatherhead-Effingham Junction-Guildford-Woking-Surbiton-Wimbledon-Clapham Jn
CS: Clapham Jn-Kensington Olympia-Hayes & Harlington-Slough-Reading-Wokingham-Farnbourgh
http://www.atoc.org/clientfiles/File/maps.pdf pages 85 and 21

So it is valid via Wimbledon, but probably not the route you desired.

Via Guildford is perfectly fine.

In addition to the routes mentioned by clagmonster, an Epsom - Farnborough Stations route Not Via London ticket is valid by:
  1. the shortest route
The shortest route Epsom - Farnborough Main is Epsom - Ewell West - Stoneleigh - Worcester Park - Motspur Park - Raynes Park - New Malden - Berrylands - Surbiton - Esher - Hersham - Walton-on-Thames - Weybridge - Byfleet & New Haw - West Byfleet - Woking - Brookwood - Farnborough Main.

The shortest route Epsom - Farnborough North or Blackwater is Epsom - Ashtead - Leatherhead - Bookham - Effingham Jn - Horsley - Clandon - London Rd Guildford - Guildford - Wanborough - Ash - North Camp - Farnborough North - Blackwater.
    .
  2. any route not more than 3 miles longer than the shortest route
This allows doubling back between Raynes Park and Wimbledon.
    .
  3. a route permitted by an Easement

Many thanks for your replies.

So as the shortest route (with +3miles rule) I should be able to go to Wimbledon?

I don't suppose it will open the barriers at Wimbledon though.
