Booked for lunch at a restaurant in Edinburgh then back to Glasgow later on and going to gym later on. Might sneak in a quick Starbucks as well. :)

On the train just now, only 1040 and tons of Primark bags, people haven’t wasted their time!

I can't believe that clothes have been classified as "non-essential". After not being able to go clothes shopping for five months, I'm running short of basic stuff that doesn't have holes in it.

I've got some people who are genuinely quite irritated about going back to work, as you might expect. In a couple of cases it's translating into "concerns", but the NHS staff I know are giving it pretty short shrift and making it clear that they want a drink.

I’m confused about this so when is the time to these people? Can’t stay sheltered to the end of time, oh wait that’s probably what is! I guess the reality is they forget in life there is death regardless but still..

This part of reply is UK wide but... the media have played their part pretty well haven’t they? They probably have achieved putting the fear into people regardless of activity but still tables will turn on them soon but let them all enjoy this fun as karma will indeed start biting but they’ll all go down (domino effect)

Thank goodness the fear porn hasn't affected the majority of people, I'm happy to hear reports of people enjoying the freedoms they've just been re-granted!

Has anybody seen any examples of Dr Gregor Smith's silly 3.5m long tables which seat six yet?

I've taken a year out and then gone back to full-time work before. It's a pretty unpleasant transition, particularly if you were getting paid for being off and won't actually be better off for going out to work. Obviously they all know it can't go on like this forever, and if they really think about it they are bored and want to get out and about again. It's easy to cling onto any kind of avoidance route though. Prominent scientists going about shouting that opening up will kill us all is a pretty logical thing to cling to as a justification for why you should be allowed to spend another few months in bed.

I've worked all through the pandemic, utilising public transport often, while loads have been sat on their arses getting paid for doing SFA at home.

It seems despite all the furlough cash dispensed none of it is headed for people who carried on regardless as if nothing had changed.

How about some sort of bonus for us ? :E

Stupid rule. If (and this is a big IF) such a situation should ever arise again, all shops need to remain open even with social distancing measures.

I know what you mean, although I've been working from a home I'm thoroughly sick of instead of going on public transport. I don't think the reluctant-to-go-back people even disagree - they just need a week or two to get back into the swing of things and stop worrying about all the rubbish the government has been feeding them on the TV.

Took a quick hop into Glasgow today

It filled me with an extreme pleasure to see places busy again, although the streets seem a bit crammed due to the sudden abundance of marquees and umbrellas that have popped up.

Similar here in Dundee, same here glad to see at least “normal” people traffic return, I did note that Primark at the Overgate had a queue which had been ongoing since 6am (word of mouth)

I've gone to the gym and am about to go to a bar! I'm almost dizzy from the excitement. I feel like it's too much, gimme back lockdown!

I believe Argyll Street was busy and not Sauchiehall Street wasn't? (word of mouth - well have family on the outskirts of Glasgow)
I passed the Sauchiehall St branch few hours ago, no queue. Didnt pass the Argyle St branch, that one is bigger. Glasgow was busy and so was Glasgow Central.

Edinburgh was quite busy today, but certainly not packed. Only shop with a significant queue was...once again...Primark! Cafés were pretty quiet. The trams were busier than I've seen public transport since the summer.

I imagine this weekend (and next Monday - it's a holiday IIRC) will be the biggest gauge of how people are feeling. I'm expecting towns/cities to be pretty busy.

Can anyone confirm:

was self isolation (due to close-contact) ever mandated in Scotland? I remember it was on the cards but not sure if it was ever introduced

As in if the app tells you to? If so I don't think so because the legislation makes reference to a 'relevant person' having to tell you you must isolate, e.t.c. meaning the app, not being a 'relevant person' cannot legally compel you to isolate.

You also don't have to have the app, of course. Absolutely no way is that privacy-invading horror that can randomly order you to stay at home going anywhere near my phone.

The traffic jams are subsequently back now!

Got caught in a traffic jam on the M8 all the way from Renfrew to the City Centre, while my friend got stuck on the Clydeside Expressway heading towards the city. That’s one aspect I’ve not missed

Yes, roads have been busier this year than last lockdown.

Seen an article on the BBC that most council areas except moray are on track to go to level 2 as most areas are registering less than 50 cases per 100,000

Disappointing that they seem to be sticking with the regional level system, rather than a countrywide approach. The big question for Moray should be how many people are in hospital, which I would suspect is not many.

I also feel like a proper regional approach should accelerate rather than just decelerate progress through the levels. Case in point - surely the Scottish Borders should be moved to level 1, considering their cases are 0.9 per 100k?

I thought the regional levels system was based more on the politics of the local council that the epidemiological data as such.

True good point. But I think that highlights the unfairness based on relatively arbitrary council boundaries. Big cities are always likely to be kept behind rural areas - but the big cities are also a destination. Meanwhile, a cluster of cases in a rural area could easily push the council rate up, when it might have limited impact in a city. A country wide approach seems most equitable, particularly when lockdown easing has seemingly not resulted in a surge in cases so there should be no reversal of restrictions. Particularly when the vaccinations are clearly working. Focus on cases per 100k is no longer appropriate i'd say and government's should be focused on restoring our rights.
