Oh dear. Looking like the points split as the number 2 end of the first vehicle passed over them.

Appears that 170407 has derailed whilst performing a shunt move at Stonehaven..

Rail services to Aberdeen are likely to face another day of disruption, Scotrail has warned.

A train derailed at Stonehaven, leading to the closure of the line between Dundee and Aberdeen.

No passengers were on board the train when it came off the rails, and it is not yet known if anyone was injured.

The rail operator has warned that the line will not be back to normal on Thursday, with services suspended "at least" until 18:00

A slightly rushed shot of the train.

Glad it wasn't a passenger service does not look like it would have been a nice experience sliding sideways along the track

Thanks to a damaged number vinyl it does look like 401 (or indeed 407) in the various low resolution pics that are floating round online but I can confirm it’s definitely 402 that’s involved.

Absolutely certain.

One of the pictures posted during the thread has 402 staring you in the face. Estimated time of line re-opening now 1800 tomorrow due to the scale of the re-railing.
It has been suggested elsewhere that the points moved underneath it but I'll wait for the RAIB report first

Good job it wasn't an HST that jumped the tracks or we'd be on 100 excited posts on this thread already...

Well the RAIB are being kept rather busy at the moment!

Looking at where the unit is and how the points are set, would I be correct in thinking the whole set should have taken the crossover but only the front bogie has done so with the rest of the train taking the straight route?

The move was from Up to Down over the crossover.

Somethings not right / rather worrying - 2 low-speed derailments in a week (one at Sheffield)? Hmmm...

Sorry but it just seems a bit odd.

Recovery of the derailed carriage(s) is to take place this evening.

Completely unrelated incidents with different stock and very different causes in completely separate areas of the country. There's nothing to be worried about.
